I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

It’s a tougher league than some give it credit for. Donny and Bradford have been surprisingly good so far. Stevenage have a new team.
But it’s all about us.

Very early days yet but I think there will be more credible competing teams for top six this year than recent seasons.

Now 1-2, Bradford turned it right around, as they say on Soccer Special

This league is an absolute much of a muchness. 80 points will fly you into autos at this rate

7 teams on more than 2 points a game currently suggests not?

Another full set of fixtures tonight (except us) and no draws, so aggregate points higher than normal.  Twice as many L2 draws this season compared to L1.

There'll be plenty looking tidy at this stage, some will fall by the wayside. I'm not seeing any side running away with it, they're all looking capable of beating each other and also throwing in a stinker. I'd be surprised if the top three were the sorts who ended up only losing 6-8 games over the season.

Yeah, Stevenage have won 4/4 but they’ve played Blackpool, Rovrum, Northampton and Port Vale.

I know you only play what’s in front of you but compare that to our start, I think they’ll come unstuck fairly quickly.

Agreed, nothing suggests lower totals will be needed this year to me. While there's no outstanding Birmingham type team it will be the usual 90 plus for autos and somewhere 80 plus for play offs.

Looks a strong league again to me. League 1 has transformed beyond all recognition from the time we got promoted with Parky

We won’t be battling Stevenage for promotion - I was more annoyed at Cardiff getting a last minute winner at Wimbledon!

Yes, that might have been a bit of an in the moment overreaction on my part last night, I suppose where I was going with it was it looks like it's so competitive but fairly evenly matched we won't end up with a Plymouth / Ipswich / Sheff Wed scenario of three into the 90s and pushing 100.

You're right about how it's transformed, the quality of players, coaches etc, and the money being pumped into it, has made it a seriously full-on league to try and get out of.

It'll no doubt only really settle into an identifiable shape and pattern well into the Winter, when squad size and ability to withstand injuries and suspensions comes to the fore. I do think though there could be 9 or 10 sides in there, scrapping away right to the end

Surely no one thinks Stevenage are the ones to watch?

Stevenage aren't going to be getting promoted but 2 years ago they were also early season front runners, and still in the play offs in March.  Games against them were like 6 pointers and Jamie Reid was scoring, as he is now.  So they might not go up but definitely shouldn't be underestimated, we'd be buzzing with their results, especially coming from behind to win twice away from home.

With our record against Blackpool and Rotherham, we wouldn't be up there!

Yes me too and it’s telling that when you look at the likes of Pompey, Ipswich, Plymouth, Wrexham and Derby and how many last ditch winners they got in their promotion years it speaks volumes for those teams compared to us at Barnsley when we had numerous chances at the end to win it. That performance alone shows we have the spirit but maybe not the quality to take those chances yet.

Ironic really that even when we had a good season (2023/24) we only won 1 with a last ditch winner and that was v 10 men (Toal at Lincoln).

Last season when we weren't really challenging, we won 5 at the death (Posh, Blackpool, Exeter, Crawley and Wigan).

It can be viewed both ways, if you're winning comfortably you can't get a last minute winner, hopefully we don't need one in the next 2 home games.

Got three promotions since he left us.

Decent lower league player.

Might be a cunt, but so was the bloke who fell out with him.

I’m sure I read something a while back that the signing on fee is key and it happens with more players than you think. I suppose it’s no difference to getting a bonus at work. You move a few times and it will stack up. I do think he thought Bolton was his shot but something changed and who knows who was at fault.

Should celebrate though the big tart

He did an interview a few months ago saying exactly what happened. I thought he come across quite well. It wasnt really his choice.

One side and all that. I suspect you are right. This comes from Evatts second biggest hater on here

It was expected because it happens to Rangers pretty much every season

The CL is way beyond their level

I don't think anyone could disagree with that. The other mob from the east side of Glasgow also. Way out of their depth.
