I was amazed at how far way the seats are away from the pitch, I know they have "retractable" stands, I just thought they would go a bit closer to the stand.....covering the void with a load of green stuff is fooling nobody

Only the lower tiers are retractable, which if anything makes it even more obvious how far away you are in the upper tier.

Europe has been moving away from grounds with running tracks around for years, West Ham have gone the other way haha.

 

My lot at Real Sociedad are spending €50m removing the one at their stadium and getting the stands nearer the pitch to create what they call "an English ground". They believe they get less decisions from referees because the crowd are too distant, I expect the West Ham supporting press to be trotting that excuse out in years to come.
