Rembrandt
If true, the future looks bleak. This is (was) ED's investment in the future. Edited June 11, 2015 by Rembrandt
Anderson
Not really... It's just a money saving measure, we still have the facilities and the coaching ability but are obligated to pay less and offer less with the more in-depth roles like Sports Scientists for U12s and video analysis of games for the kids, stuff that let's be honest is a bit unnecessary. Plus we don't have to pay rent for an indoor facility seeing as we don't own one as far as I'm aware.
Moderators Casino Posted June 11, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 11, 2015 another non story we're a team in divsion 2 we are spending 1million a year on under 16s? thats a quarter of what we'll have for the whole bastard club and who is to say it will have any adverse effect its fcuking bullshit form a bullshit merchant
RoadRunnerFan
Seems common sense, if a little short termist to reduce these costs as its a big chunk of our turnover as pointed out above. Only worrying thing is these costs are excluded from FFP, so it might give us less opportunity to be 'creative' with the accounts if we are borderline compliant. I'm not a Gartside basher but the club can't hide behind FFP for this one.
LeggyMountbatten
If the money isn't there, it isn't there. I don't think it necessarily means we will stop producing any players. If we downgrade to Cat 2 we will be the same as clubs like Birmingham, Leeds and Crewe who you could argue have produced more quality young players over the past couple of years than we have at Cat 1 when you think about Gray, Byram etc.

marple whites
If you look at the facilities cat 1 clubs have in this area (City, Everton, United, Liverpool) and compare to what we have, cat 2 is our level. I have seen over the last 12 months with my lad, the differences since we have been out of the top flight. Lots of fairly big clubs in the UK are cat 2 as well as clubs that churn out players year in year out (Crewe), so its not really that bigger issue. If we drop any further (cat 3) - then we really are in trouble.
Pablo
Your system was not that good anyway, well certainly not the scouting network
Pablo
Good set up at the academy though....although porta-cabins donated by Everton are not enough...

Moderators Carlos Posted June 11, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 11, 2015 Surely this wasn't going to happen with Sammy Lee leaving? Anyone expecting us to keep on running a top class academy is a fucking idiot.

Gumbo
However in all seriousness we were given cat 1 with several action plans including huge investment in new offices, indoor centre on sight and floodlights on the match pitch. As Carlos mentions above, Sammy Lee was the reason we got cat 1. The model we currently have is most certainly cat 2 and always has been in form of facility, scout and as a result players. RoadRunnerFan
not FFP but EPPP http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/why-premier-league-greed-will-kill-football-league-and-england and that article is 4 years old I know FFP an EPPP are separate issues, just pointing out that these costs are excluded from FFP and bigger youth development costs make it easier to claim that certain costs are related to youth development. Same deal as with the hotel and the free school etc - I'd take an educated guess that these projects were a factor in us avoiding a transfer embargo - along with the massive write downs at the end of 2012/13.
