I've got to agree with it

 

We all use plenty of gas and seem fine with it as long as it's fucking up the countryside in Eastern Europe before being piped all the way here

 

We can't be hypocrites and use the stuff but demand that it doesn't effect our own back yard

 

Then you've got the whole argument about tens billions of pounds a year leaving the country heading east. Be great for our economy if that money stayed here

 

Get on with it but heavily compensate anyone effected so they can afford to move if that's what they want

 

If they still complain then turn their gas and electric off. We need a solution for the 60 million of us rather than thinking about tens of thousands quiet enjoyment being spoilt. No different to second runways at Heathrow etc

 

I remember when they built the M65 100 yards from my Mums house, we got double glazing and that was it.

I'm still unconvinced about its wider effects- in the US gas escaped into drinking water! And its odd how its extracted in part using 'chemicals'. What are they and what are their long term environmental impacts?

What are the impacts of transporting huge amounts of water and sand: both on where they come from and the land they are piped over?

Large areas of the USA have low population density, and the costs of extraction would therfor be lower. Saw a chap a while back saying it wouldn't be cost effective.

Personally rather see a drive into sustainable alternatives, and perhaps base research and an industry in this and low energy products; might be quite useful economically now we're out.

Additionally, this progress only delays the inevitable as fossil fuels' availability declines.

Surely that can't be true - even if it was, I think the property prices would plummet by more than that anyway, so it wouldn't be worth it in the long run anyway.

As I remember fracking in the US was so successful that when their power stations switched from coal to gas the knock on effect on the price of coal in Europe meant many Western European countries switched back to using coal even environment virtuous Germany.

 

The eco warriors spread rumours of mass water contamination in the states when in reality it was a few isolated incidents. We need fracking and nuclear asap, i would personally like to see some new coal mines sunk.

18.4 million gallons of oil and chemicals spilled isn't isolated, and 1 death every 6 weeks means we need better regulations than they currently have in the US.

 

Not saying Fracking isn't the way to go but its needs to be handled a lot better than what has previously taken place.

Depends, how intrusive are these sites? They look like relatively small rigs from what I've seen on the news, can't cause much more intrusion than say a small industrial estate with a few units on it

When lorries are twatting through your village and setting up sites where your kid plays football then crack on and let's have the debate.

 

These sites aren't temporary, they will change areas for good.

I don't know about fracking, but we have a quarry at the top of the hill. The lorries have proper fucked up the roads they use with dirt and dust, you wouldn't want that in your immediate area. AND they absolutely fucking thrash the bastards like they are F1 cars, round country lanes. Absolute cunts, the drivers.

There was an exploratory rig at a site a few miles away from me. If it wasn't for all the protestors camped outside the site you would have hardly known it was there

surely there are other resources that can be used that can be greener and cleaner I would rather continue with solar power surely each house with a few solar panels fitted could help reduce significantly the need to use the earths resources built up over millions of years should be discouraged as much as is humanly possible. I really think we're in danger of using the earths resources in the blink of an eye.

Thing is the value of houses around fracking sites could decrease a LOT more than £10,000. I'm not sure it is progress really. It is still reliant on a finite resource that only exists because it has been harder to farm. Once fracking is in full swing that resource will deplete and rapidly become more expensive as the low hanging fruit is picked. I also think that it will damage local economies significantly. For me we should be investing in nuclear power. I know it isn't an infinite resource either but it is estimated to last twice as long as gas from fracking so as a developed country I'd prefer to see our resources go there.

We should be taking the boom money from fracking - investing some of it in the local area and using the rest to fund a sustainable nuclear/renewable infrastructure.

 

Those wells are quite small by the way - and they only stay for the duration of the resource. Then they're removed.

 

I guarantee if there's ever a fire up on the hills someone will say it's because of gas coming out of winter hill.

You'd think tidal power would be a good option as well, given that we're an island

Problem is that not one of the 'green' energy sources is, was or is ever likely to be a viable option.What happens when the wind doesn't blow, you have a flat ocean day or the sun doesn't shine (sometimes for weeks up north). Industry temporarily suspended?

 

Fully supportive of nuclear; we are advanced enough even now to jettison the waste into outer space (or to the moon which glows in the dark anyway!).

 

We can't ignore this windfall though and I am 100% certain that we won't. The missed schadenfreude opportunity with the jocks voting to stick with us is a bloody shame. North sea oil and gas petering out and the real wealth being beneath northern England. I wonder how Sturgeons attitude will change with the dawn of realisation.
