London-centric Government shitting on local (northern) folk shocker.

Hardly a surprise.

How long before we discover which mps have shares in fracking companies?

Nah, if this was in Sussex or somewhere they will have overruled it also. Give it a few years and there will be shale gas sites all over the UK

It's democracy, the people of the area generally don't want it, they get overruled...

.

It fuckin stinks.

A housing project recently got passed near me by one judge after previously being turned down by the council board by a majority twice over.

What was the point in putting before the local council and all the bollocks that went with for one to come in and overrule it? Back handers all day long.

It's going to cause chaos but nobody gives a fuck as long as people are getting paid off.

Same with fracking. People don't have a choice.

It fuckin stinks.

Democracy in action Gonzo lad. They know best. They're just saving us from our own bad decisions,

I have my doubts

Remember that Tory peer who on a debate on fracking basically said there's fuck all up North so covering it in wells wouldn't make a difference.

It fuckin stinks.

This game is with planning mate is there are set planning laws that have to be met. Too many times local butchers bakers and candlestick makers are more worried about getting flack from Disgruntled of Middletown in the local elections than listening to planning professionals who have make a decision based on planning laws and local authority housing allocation targets.

It's just as bent when what should be a valid planning appliction get refused by a council committee who otherwise only turn up for the butties and funny masonic handshakes, despite their experienced and qualified council planners recommending it for approval.

To recommend it for approval there's a fuck load of policies to meet first so I'd sooner listen to them than some cunt who got a golf course back hander from some nimby.

What pisses me off most is that the people making decisions won't have to deal with the impact.

It's the levels which make a substance toxic or non toxic. This is the same argument anti vaxxers use against vaccines. Vaccines contain mercury - mercury is poisonous - therefore Vaccines are poisonous. Well vaccines do contain mercury - about the same amount that you get in an apple. I suspect it's the same with fracking. Maybe if you drank a pint of fracking fluid it might not do you much good (even though your stomach is full of hydrochloric acid). But by the time it's returned to the surface - been diluted by the existing groundwater and filtered by the ground it passes through I imagine it'll be in such infentesimally small concentrations as to pose no risk to health. Otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to do it.

And this argument that there might be an accident during transportation? By that rationale we should stop transporting any substance which might be considered hazardous. Petrol, electronics, aerosols, gas.

I understand that and agree with your last paragraph. What we don't understand yet is the long term effect on hydrology and geology; basically because its a relatively new technology.

When the industrial revolution started it took a very long time to realise the long term effects of polution.

I also am unconvinced about just how cost effective this is. Two hundred thousand gallons of polyacrylamide has to be manufactured (presumably from oil feedstocks) and many tonnes of water, salt or sand etc has to be brought in.

This relies of the use of a large amount of energy and as we're a small island compared to America with a higher population density I'm yet to be convinced of the economics.

I guess we'll see- feel a lot better if some of the profits were utilised to research and improve renewables provision

If energy prices come down as a result of fracking I'll join Cheese on the town hall steps..

Good to see localism in action

Not close to a proposed site. But my view is the south east get giving everything first so let them fuckers be the test cases for UK fracking and if its fine send it up here then

Is there any actual evidence of fracking causing issues or are these stories about gas coming out of taps and all that just myths?

I've got faith in the powers that be to conclude sufficient risk assessments on all this and make the right call

Fracking has been happening for donkeys years down there.

This is not so much fracking, but fracking for shale gas that's the issue ( for some) and due to geology, the shale gas is up here in the main I believe.

If i can get free gas from my taps its a bonus. Should reduce my energy bills massively.

AE Yates Civil Engineers in Horwich have got Swampy and a few of his mates at the front gates today protesting about all this fracking lark. They have been there in small numbers for about a week but today is their biggest turn out. Anyway, I didn't see any of the WW Htown elite with them. Interesting I thought.

We had a site in Salford next door to a fracking site undergoing tests. Holding up our works every day as the road lead to the fracking site.

Not a bar of soap between them. Professional protesters and ignorant wankers to a man woman and manky dog.

All (left wing) protestors are bloody heroes, God bless each and every one of them.
