Town Centre Latest

Just had a meeting on Churchgate. Sad to see the Bolton News offices empty. And in a week or two the Travel Counsellors building opposite will be empty. Another 200+ people spending approx £20 per week on parking and lunches in the town... plus whatever other services they spend their hard-earned on - all being lost. Very sad state of affairs.

When will it get better? Should these empty offices be turned into apartments?

The Food Hall has opened at Bolton Market. Had a mooch around. Didn’t buy anything but it both looks and smells good. Various stalls with a variety of foods and a small bar.  I’ve said previously, t

The Temple, Atlantis and Juice/early J2 were great times for me

Not been out in Bolton since my leaving drinks from work.

It was always a shite place but enough beer and good mates make any place fun.

Need more classy establishments like Bergerac's circa 97 to draw the chic clientele back to the town.

Used to like that private room at the back :)

There was a bottle of absinthe in there one evening.

It ended with one of our group asleep in his bath having utterly shit himself.

I always thought the nightlife was decent in Bolton TC in the 80's.We've had mobs of lads + lasses up from Darn Sarf who always loved a night out here.

Spaz, why don't you have a back to the old temple do at your gaff next Saturday? It's a winning idea imo.

Not seen the Crown & Flicknife mentioned!!! Great bar/pub/club.

Thursday night karaoke - followed by a real struggle on Friday morning at work until we finished at lunch time and spilled into the Alma or Clarence.

Whatever happened to finishing early on a Friday?

Does none of these towndweller WW'ers live amid the women of ill-repute in Marsden House then, like some latter-day Whoremasters?

No mention of Swannies?

I arranged the opening and running of Swannies before moving to the Wirral

When you was a teenager round Bolton, you never bothered about the way the town looked, it was just a drinking spree with the pubs and clubs on offer, I would never venture past Four Lane Ends now after dark.

I knew a coupla lads on the door at Swannies from the early days,Johnny Brads & Big Joe Hubbard (Rip) The latter lost an ear in an incident in there iirc.

Bouncers were firm but fair in those days and drugs were almost none existent in town, although eager trollops & cheap booze were plentiful.

Whilst we're on the subject of ears & The Swan, a mate of mine (Roy Hartles son) got his ear sliced off in The Swan by an Everton fan with a glass before our League cup semi against them in 1977, luckily enough the Docs managed to stitch it back on.
