There will be Russian tanks on western streets by 2020.

Fact.

How will that sit with the Muslims who are supposedly introducing Sharia Law before then?

Halal military equipment. Easy.

it depends on whether I build a wall round Bury and push ahead with my plans to rename it East Bolton

So many possibilities.

If you claim Bury, I'll annexe Rossendale and rename it Outer Bolton.

DT is DT.   What's more worrying is Russia's effective threat to start WW3

If chemical weapons have been used Nato/allied forces are obliged to step in (as I understand it - was said on R4)  If DT said he'd do fook all then there'd be something to whine at.

Why are they protecting them?

Gonzo you could well be correct about those tanks.

Russia's only naval base in the Med is Tartus, which is leased from Syria.

Yes, in joint exercises with their closest ally, the USA.

Clinton is a proven failure.

Trump is a loose cannon - it just might work out (as Bolty suggests) or it could be a total disaster, and not just for UK.

It is interesting that Trump now always refers to "Crooked Hillary", when not that long ago the Clintons were guests at his latest wedding.

This works for me.

I know I flippantly suggested that I'd comment when the Tomahawks had been launched but, seriously, we (and the US) would be better keeping our collective noses out of Syria and let the tyrant do whatever he needs to do to regain control. Just as we shouldn't have disturbed Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gadaffi (hindsight truly is a wonderful thing).

These dusty shitholes (word chosen very carefully) need a tyrant with megalomania to suppress the disparate groups of ne'er-do-wells, undesirables and primitive savages who, when set free from such suppression, cause mayhem and destruction throughout the region and beyond.

Then you look at Zimbabwe and South Africa and what well meaning but misguided fucktards ended up unleashing there (mass starvation, tribal butchery etc.) and it's time we all learned a lesson.

Time for us all to pack up our bongo's and fuck off home and leave them to it.

Smoothly done? :)

Blair's et al lies as apposed to Trump's Twittering

There was sarcasm there just to be clear :)

See whilst I broadly agree I'm not sure I'm comfortable standing back and watching them gas kids to death and just letting them get on with it. At the end of the day the West has done so much to destabilise the middle east over the past few decades and more that worrying about doing further damage almost seems moot.

Let us not forget our own long history of selling these countries weapons, and indeed chemical weapons during the 80's. Equally I'm not sure bombing and missiles are going to help the problem all that much.

End of the day we're too scared to go after the real problems of Saudi and Iran so we tinker round the edges and make things worse.

Sorry to come over all Jeremy Corbyn - but I think we're on extremely shaky ground if we launch air strikes without a full investigation into who was responsible. Surely it's not beyond the realms of possibility that one of the disparate groups in Syria were behind it in an attempt to draw the West into the conflict.

Maybe I'm just not machievallian enough - but I can't see how a relatively small chemical weapons strike on what was a largely civilian target would benefit the Assad regime in any sense?

It would be reckless to do anything without first establishing facts. And I agree that facts seem very shaky. Trump has effectively backed himself into a corner now though.

Not comfortable for any right minded person.

Tip - don't watch.

Who knows?  If they are 'rebel' supporting areas perhaps its aim is to strike fear into fellow supporters and weaken resolve?

i.e. go on, keep fighting and see what happens.

Not beyond possible the rebels did it but they run a big risk and who's most likely to have access?  Perhaps they were used accidentally and they weren't the intended target?

Whichever, if folk in Syria are using chemical weapons on or around civilians the world has a duty to prevent further casualties - I agree though, these things never end well and it will most likely worsen before it gets anything like better.  Poor folk.

Britain's former ambassador to Syria was interviewed earlier. Fascinating -he's convinced the footage of the gas attack is false and created by extremists.

Apparently with one previous alleged gas attack; folk were presenting with symptoms at hospital one hour before the incident occurred. He claimed all is not what it seems and said no action should be taken until such time as the relevant authorities have investigated.

Bolty- agree entirely- stay away, now ISIS has been degraded leave then to it.

Not the easiest landscape to make a decision.

But, the world can’t allow chemical weapons to be used.

The question I would ask of people like Corbyn is what would you do stop the use of them? If you tolerate their use, it will, most likely, increase.

Generally, I’m not in favour of being involved in foreign lands and openly disagreed with the foray into Afghanistan, for example.

We should ensure that the UN can investigate and denial of that should be enough to enable action.

That's where I'm at.  Investigate fully before coming to any conclusions; but if those efforts are blocked then I'd say intervention is justified (as it ever can be)

And that intervention should be approved by parliament, not just a small number of chosen MPs

Trumps now amended his bullshit from yesterday to ... "it could be very soon or not so soon at all"

TMGJ - Was this the article you were referring to?https://www.rt.com/uk/423817-syria-murray-ford-assad/

Not sure which chap it was as I missed his introduction on BBC breakfast. But the article seems to reflect what he said.

I've no problem with going after asad if he is indeed using these weapons.

Just a bit of a jolt listening to the fella and his cautionary note.

I also think in this case; once evidence of his guilt has been confirmed that action be discussed with parliament.

With adequate evidence I'm sure that tory doubters would diminish and plenty of labour mps would approve action.

Be interesting to see Corbyn swerving again.

Corbyn's position of doing everything possible to avoid a war is probably not a bad position to take in the modern international climate. Don't think its swerving in this case.
