I think this as more to do with South Korea then Trump, seeing that the South Koreans were at the white house yesterday and it was them that announced the meeting and not Trump (he did come out to see the press to tell that their would be bigly announcement later). The US as more to lose if they don't talk, if they leave just the north and south to talk the US could just be left out in the cold which I think China would just love 

If he does cease his weapons programme then that's a victory for everyone. Whoever helps make it happen.

We have been here before with the North Koreans so they have form. If Trump can pull it off then fair play to him and his tactics but there is a long way to with two of the most egotystical human beings i have had ever had the displeasure of witnessing.

 Yes, Bill Clinton got some sort of agreement, but George W Bush believed (almost certainly correctly) that NK were cheating.

 

A seasoned politician would not touch this with a bargepole, but it is within the bounds that Trump can pull it off.

 

If achieving that meant withdrawal of US troops from South Korea there would also be a cost saving in that.

 

And I think Trump could leave them in no doubt what would happen if they reneged.

US steel was more expensive than its foreign competitors before the tarrifs and US manufacturers have already indicated that prices will rise. A crackpot policy that will no doubt prove to be the wrong stance.

Its a bit of an own goal for Trump, he touted the Keystone pipeline (by an EO) he's just added 300 million to the cost, so I would say he's fucked that pipeline up cant see it going ahead now. Exxon are now having a think about a new distillation unit ( cost maybe 700 to 800 million) they say it will be cheaper to import the raw materials
