July 14, 201610 yr I once worked with a chap who had it done. He got an infection post op, but all was well in the end. Iirc he was pleased to have had it done despite this. As with any procedure there's some element of risk, but techniques seem better.

July 14, 201610 yr Smiley has had it done. Looked into it myself and at the time decided against it. Apparently it dose do the job. But it doesn't stop your eyes going worst the older you get. So short term it's worth it. But unless you spend again the specs will be back on your nose later on in life.
July 14, 201610 yr My brother-in-law had it done, and he didn't need glasses at all, it really changed his life. His eyes have since got bad again, about 5 years later, he's been told that he can't have further laser treatment. I have a phobia about eyes, I wouldn't even wear contacts, no way could I touch my own eyeball. I'm ever so glad I'm not a speccy twat

July 14, 201610 yr My sister is an optician and she insists laser eye surgery is not a permanent fix so after a number of years you will need glasses/contacts again...my friend is testament to this too....back wearing contacts after 10 years or so without them
July 14, 201610 yr My wife had it done twelve and a half years ago and still doesn't need glasses for distance, her eyes were Terrible before the treatment which I think was Lasek.The problem with the laser treatment is that you will still need reading glasses as that is caused by the muscles that control the lens weakening with age. By coincidence I am having a consultation at Optical Express next week also, I fancy the lens replacement surgery as that works for both reading and distance vision and lasts as long as you do (or so they say), also it prevents the possibility of cataracts in later life. The sister-in-law had it done last year and swears by it.
July 14, 201610 yr Had it done 10 years ago. Would recommend dependant on age. It doesn't cure needing glasses for reading (close up) etc when you are around 50. Great for those short sighted at a young age though. Life transforming for some. Edited July 14, 201610 yr by captainmed

July 14, 201610 yr When I asked Boots opticians. years back they didn't recommend it. Their view changed when they started offering laser surgery. Make of that whatever you will but as others have said it's not permanent and your eyes start to deteriorate straight away.
