MalcolmW Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 The 3 x 1 hour Stephen - the murder that changed a nation, covering the murder, investigation and trials (and tribulations) of theStephen Lawrence case 25 years ago is well worth watching - it will be on iPlayer for the next 4 weeks. Quote
Kane57 Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Have just finished the second episode. Was only 10 when it happened so most of this is new to me. Shocking. Never understood why people choose to be racist, suppose it's an educational thing both at home and school. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 An interesting philosophical question that. Do people choose as such, or is it indeed education; or environment, experiences etc. Quote
Theboybell Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Cunk on Britain. Probably not everyone’s cup of tea but I think she’s superb. Obviously a cunt because she’s local etc etc.... Aye i like her, Some of the jokes are a bit too juvenile and obvious but still for half an hour worth a go. Slightly annoyed me that she had no input in the writing of it. Quote
Matt Lofthouse Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 They'll milk the teat dry though as alwaysI’d say the teat was dry a while back. Bored the shit out of me that last series. Quote
madthatter Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 (edited) An interesting philosophical question that. Do people choose as such, or is it indeed education; or environment, experiences etc. Always fascinated me. Most psychology theories suggest it stems from a within race effect - i.e. you are or you aren't one of me/mine tribe. Basic and primal. Our fear of different folk was probably more justified and necessary to our survival . . . you may get eaten! The same cognitive process that we may call racism today (or what Hitler intended) is probably no different to what the Beaker people felt that came to Britain back in the day; that man depicted at Cerne Abbas is basically a warning that 'We are bigger, stronger and have bigger knobs than you so fcuk right off or else . . .' (amusingly, most wouldn't see that as 'racism' today as both folk were white . . .) I think in the modern world our 'tribe' constantly shifts and we're still adjusting as a species to such large, changing groups. Sometimes I'm amazed we are as tolerant as we are. That said, once the food and land shortages kick in I fear the worst. That's a cheery Sunday thought On the plus side, diversity is great at breaking down those primal fears through association - but only if it occurs naturally. Force it, like often happens today, and it has the reverse effect. Edited April 22, 2018 by madthatter Quote
Kane57 Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 Well that's one style of post I never expected to see on here. Last sentence is sadly all too true Quote
madthatter Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 Well that's one style of post I never expected to see on here. Last sentence is sadly all too true It's not sad - it's avoidable and unnecessary; frustrating would be the word I'd go with. I've said before that most policies in the UK that involve inclusion or diversity will be created by upper-middle class whites who come from leafy villages in the shires and once saw a black man when on holiday in Keeeenya. i.e they mean well but haven't got a clue. Smiley Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Having watched the first series of The Killing in Danish 7-8 years ago, decided to tackle the US version. So far so good. Best bit, totally forgot who dunnit. Also watched 4/5 episodes of this year's The Island with Bear Grylls. Quite a good mix-up this year having a posh-knobs team and a scroaty team. Some proper fat lasses in the scroats. Quote
jeep Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Going off some recommendations on here I've purchased Gomorrah - The Series, also having watched the film numerous times. Watched the 1st series over the last 2/3 days - it's quality!! Quote

Zico Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Sounds like you were rooting for him?! I just get a bit annoyed when a seemingly competent serial killer drops such a clanger my favourite one, BTK, did similar - he was in contact with the police, taunting them and showing off, and asked if he were to send a floppy disc with pics of his kills on them, would they be able to trace it back to him the police were like "no mate, it's not possible" so he did, and then they traced it back to him to go to all that work then fuck it up like that, nobheads Quote

The Dharmer biography was quite disturbing to read - In his case he could, and should, have been caught several times before he was. Don't bother much anymore, gets my head into too dark a place. Just come on here instead Quote

madthatter Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 (edited) Isn't being (nearly) caught part of what some of these monsters get a kick from? Maybe some of them. In Dharmer's case his kick was from humping the dead bodies organs, take trophies of body parts and tried making a living sex zombie by injecting acid then water into folks' brains. A copper actually stopped one of the latter in the street who got away (with a drilled hole in his skull and was bleeding out of his anus). JD told him they were gay lovers and that he was drunk; despite a crowd insisting the cops did something they let him take him back to his house - where the inevitable happened. Duck Egg Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 ^ Lad was only about 14 or 15 too wasn't he? I remember the recording of the cops giggling and saying "a gay lovers tiff. We sent him back to his boyfriend" Quote
