Bolton Wanderers are expected to complete a deal to sign Shelbourne defender Lewis Temple on a permanent contract, ahead of the opening of the January transfer window. Steven Schumacher’s side are currently fourth in League One, as the division approaches the half-way mark, just three points shy of the automatic promotion places. With the January transfer window closely approaching, Bolton have successfully identified their first signing of 2026. As reported by journalist Daniel McDonnell, Bolton Wanderers are expected to complete the signing of Shelbourne’s Lewis Temple in the coming days. The 20-year-old has reportedly played his final game for the Irish Premiership side ahead of a January move to England, becoming the second player to make the move this January after Lincoln City signed Josh Honohan. No details have been revealed as yet as to the potential fee or contract length, but Temple’s move to Bolton is expected to go through.

I have no problem with us signing an unproven 6’3” defensive kick-boxer. He will certainly have a dedication to fitness and will take zero shit from forwards - just hope he can play a bit too. If there’s any truth in this it will be filed under “one for the future” and will probably not impact our need to sell before we can buy dilemma. And SS made it clear we need to sell in his BN article.

They had just recruited 2 new players . Sold it to me pretty well to be fair until I found out the 2 new "stars" were regional kick boxing champions who couldnt kick a ball but were brought in as the team had got sick of getting the shit kicked out of them every Sunday morning. He’s going out for experience which hopefully will improve what’s already there. Why do you feel you have to write off a kid before he’s even had chance to show what he can do. He looked fine in pre season just a bit rough so with the squad we have he was never going straight into the first team.

I don’t think MK is writing him off and of course we’d all love Warren to make it, but I too have my doubts - which are that in young unproven forwards they already have (at say 15 or 16) attributes which are more natural than coached such as exceptional pace or technical skills - and in some cases, vision - something to build on. In Warren’s case - and TBF I’ve only seen his preseason cameos - nothing exceptional stood out for me, although he clearly has some talent and can finish. Presumably he’s being developed into a striker in which case he’ll need to be a fair bit more robust but realistically if he’s going to have a chance he should really be there by now - he is after all 22 next month. Aldershot will be good for him.

He just needs to adapt to the speed and quality of the game at a higher level. This will be helped by the fact that he’s now a full-time footballer. Dwell on that latter point. The last six months is the first time he’s ever been in a full-time training set-up; and this was hampered by an injury for a couple of months. Played for a semi pro team where our wide man broke a leg so the manager brought in a sprinter - fastest thing I’ve seen on legs - so we kept sliding it behind the defence and he was off like a cheetah, but had no control of the ball, couldn’t cross and couldn’t shoot. Lovely lad but he was like the proverbial shopping trolley on the Cresta run. Two frustrating matches later, the manager benched him in favour of a rugby winger he’d found - another good lad who got up and down the side all day long, but his problem was that he seemed to forget what game he was playing and his tackling - although TBF he did remember not to go in with his arms - made everyone wince as he mowed down anyone between him and the ball. Knobbled two of their defenders and got sent off before HT. Funny as fuck though.

I guess balancing out Wright and Vardy are the (literally) millions of 21-year-old non-league players who didn't mature into L1 and above players. I'm not writing him off, but it's obviously massively odds against on him ever making a difference to our first team. Which is totally fine, we should always be taking zero-risk punts on potential.
