Too many is the answer lusty because it’s pretty clear they can’t all play. It’s unclear yet whether Ceesay is being signed as a defensive midfielder or a left back and to be fair similar with Taylor, central defender of left back? With Johnston, Inwood and possibly (hopefully) Conway competing for left side places there’s questions all over the pitch.

I wonder if they’ll all go to Spain next week or some who know they’re going will stay behind to work on deals. I can’t believe discussions haven’t been had and players all know where they stand. With everybody back to pre season now, clubs and players will want to be getting deals finalised so we should be getting clues shortly. We’ve had plenty rumours and perceived bids for targets to come in but I’ve yet to here of any of our contracted linked to going out anywhere!

Presumably Schuey will have had Mano a mano chats with everyone already?

What intrigues me is the system(s) he is  proposing especially as none of the midfielders are prolific goal scorers. We need to be more than “difficult to beat”. Someone else in the pipeline perhaps? Or a loaner?

And Sharples-Ahmed to go out on loan?

We are the just saying things for the sake of saying things stage of the summer.

Things.

Better than not saying anything though gonzo or should we just close the site until August?

Huddersfield have taken Freddie Goodman on loan from Palace who we were also linked with after a good season with Wimbledon and before we signed Teddy. Personally I would have preferred Goodman but I haven’t seen enough of them to know. It’s another good signing for them though and another reason I think they’ll be the team to beat.

Interesting activity in and out of Edgeley Park today. Olaofe out to Charlton and Mothersille from Peterbrough signed as his replacement.

Last year's results against them were hard to take. Not sure just how much relevance they'll have come that first weekend of the season given both clubs are shaping up to have very different playing staff.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Hopefully.

That weird love affair Evatt had with him last year was pure desperation. Much as we love to see 'one of our own' come through he was nowhere near ready.

I assume there were ulterior moves.

Would have been a terrible signing. Never seen the lad play but he's from Palace and his name sounds far too much like Dougie Freedman for my liking.

It's unusual for wingers to have one side they play on now. If schon played on the left consistently he would be too easy to defend. He's no right foot so full backs would just force him down the line. He doesn't have the pace Desmond has.

I almost feel schon has to play on the right to be able to cut inside on his left foot.

Wingers who cut in tend to need to be able to shoot though. Schon can’t do that.

I said we should back in May :D

Same happens every summer.

Just end up saying random names.

I know where you are coming from in a sense if you are like me and only seen Goodman in the play-offs

Very impressed with Goodman, but he is not in front of TSL In the u21 pecking order

I have never watched Sharmen-lowe  but he he is well regarded at Chelsea and has just won the league with Doncaster

He will do for me

I’d agree with you normally but since Kellman at less than a mill is available via @Whitesince63 then I declare it open.

Dempsey doesn't even deserve dismissing then ?

The recent Bolton News article on our midfield options didn’t even mention him.

Is Mothersille meant to be any good?  I presume he's a striker if he's replaced Olaofe, but 6 league goals excluding pens last season makes our "crap" strikeforce of Collins and McAtee (23, all from open play) look prolific.  3 goals the previous season in 22 games too.  Hopefully Posh are laughing like they were when we gave them a million in January.

Hes the cunt who stuck the mask on back end of last season

Think you've misunderstood mano a mano.

Unless we've secretly hired John Sitton.

You can’t ignore the past history though lusty and it’s not ancient history. We’ve been at the top table in recent history with Sam. None of the teams in L1 other than perhaps Huddersfield have been anywhere near that in their entire history. We’re going through a difficult period but it could have been different now had we not blown it at Wembley. You’re right as far as moneys concerned but we have backers who want us to succeed and seem content to do so. I don’t doubt though that should we make it into the Championship new backers or owners will appear. I think you dismiss our history and size of club we are too easily. I believe our reputation, history and standing do mean something to players who’ve had no previous connection to our club and can make the difference in negotiations. What player at our level wouldn’t want to wear the shirt worn by the likes of Sir Nat, Youri or Jay Jay to name just three? I’m not bigging us up lusty I just don’t think you can write these things off so casually.

I reckon less than 30% of L1 footballers - under the age of 30 - would have the faintest idea who Nat Lofthouse or Youri Djorkaeff are. They may have seen the clip of Jay Jay at the corner flag. But I doubt any are making career decisions based off it.

He’ll do for me too and I’m hoping for big things from him. The Donny fans over here loved him and were gutted he signed for us but they seem to have got a good replacement for him.

Seriously? I’d be surprised if that were anywhere near true.

Ben McGruntfuttock.

Random name I saw on a gravestone in Cumbria in the 70s.

Presumably Scottish and a mountain of a man.

I wouldn’t. Have you talked to anyone under the age of 50 in the last 20 years?

Most know Shearer and Lineker but would struggle to name any of their Southampton or Leicester teammates.
