We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

how do the prem u23s do in that checkatrade shit?

4 qualified from their group stage.

Swansea then lost at home to Charlton, and WHam lost at Luton.

Leicester won at Scunny then lost at Oldham.

Chelski won at MK and Portsmouth, then beat Oxford at home but went out on pens at Lincoln.

As I've said before, luck plays a part in giving players opportunities.

Nick Pope was released by Ipswich at 16 and then played 3 years for the non-league Bury Town (not to be confused with the soon-to-be non-league Bury), and was picked up at 19 by Charlton.

They sponsored his Sports Science degree course at Roehampton 'Uni' (alma mater of the philosopher Joey Barton), and loaned him out repeatedly, initially to non-league clubs and then eventually to York City and the league club known as Bury, which is probably where Sean Dyche or his staff noticed him.

He transferred from Charlton to Burnley with 2 years left on his Charlton contract. In his first season his only appearance was in the league cup, when Burnley lost at Accy in the last minute of extra time, converting a fee kick conceded by Pope. I'm sure that attracted some comments at the time.

This season, thanks to Heaton's early injury, he has played an important part in Burnley's best placing for years, and has played his way into the World Cup squad. If Charlton hadn't sold him, they probably wouldn't have taken Amos on loan for the past season.

Now that some story Malc

Said it before, but the level your u23’s are playing is very low....so any lad doing well in that team is still miles and miles away from your first team.

Just look at all the prem u23 lads that are struggling in your league, and they are at a much higher level.

Same goes for the managers/coaches of that team.....they cant make that jump to first team managers!!!!

He’s absolutely right about the standard

Don’t agree on the coaches as wholeheartedly, but it’s aell known that the league our lot won is a bit biz

They can only beat what’s in front of them but the leap is much higer than it is from the top u23 league. Obvs

The keeper was out on loan at Glossop, got beat from 35 yards, probably not get a game at that level.

Wasn’t King on loan at FC united and scored a couple before coming back? Think that’s level he’ll find himself at.

I think King will end up L2 next season.

We are in the u23 League playing mostly Championship clubs u23s. Which is the level we are at.

I've been to a few this season and I would say that the players are generally physically stronger but not as skilful as the Prem League u23s.

Most of our loans from there have been too weak for the Championship. I can't think of one last season who was a success and I include Robinson in that who is a liability in the air at the back. Can't head and generally out of position.

Which is funny when you consider the success of a one up team is based on the strength of the midfield to get up and win second balls.

We didn't sign anyone in that category on loan. They probably don't exist in Prem u23s.

I had a peek at a Burnley board (going for a shower next),

just after full time in their defeat by Accy this perceptive comment came along:

"Not sure why we've signed Pope, didn't look anything special."

Saw a few games at this level this last season at Blyth and the standard pretty average. The truly good players stand out and if they’re really that good will progress beyond vanarama (or Ramadan as my spellcheck insists on changing it to.)

Ben Amos did.

Bolton. Parkinson will be allowed to offer a decent wage to a new striker. But he will have to be a free. Or a loan.

So money available for wages then not fees

Not surprised. Just look at the kind of shit £6m-£8m can get you these days.

And as I tried to explain to some idiots on facemither, even if it is true it’s not the end of the world - there’s a much closer correlation to success by wages than there is by transfer fees.

It’s the beginning of June and folk are panicking already

aye, the gary madine we got on a free was much better value for money than the one that Cardiff got for 8M

Bit worrying that he dismissed the Saudi takeover talk. Though Ken did say he was talks with 3 parties about investment so who knows?

Dont worry about Saudis

It seems Saudis ruled out that suggests other bidders ruled in.

You mock but all those goals he scored in their run up...

Oh! Well, it's only right at 13.26 on 6th May 2018. He might have scored a few after that date. :jump:

Agree to an extent but we are going to have to start paying fees to get young players on the way up to sell on and cover losses. Btw I'm talking about 3-400k signings from league one or players from abroad, not £5m championship centre forwards.

You can agree as much or little as you like but what I posted was a fact, not an opinion :) (the correlation bit)
