We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

If we could get Robinson, Wyke in as well that would be decent!

Think we will probs get a keeper in as well.

Not sure we would sign Mcginnes, Donaldson and Wyke would we

Then again, I’m assuming Wyke is a similar striker to the other two (target man), I can’t recall seeing him play tbf

Donaldson isn’t really out and out target man from what I’ve seen of him over the years, more a Jerome type, pace and power for hitting teams on the break

My uncle thought he was Saint Jerome.

It is incredible how many clubs harry redknapp has destroyed.

in all fairness, he only spends what he's given to spend. I suppose the "incredible" thing is that Chairmen keep giving him the opportunity to do it

True. Although I’m sure he has some form of duty to himself to question whether it’s right or wrong.

It’s like Anderson suddenly letting Parkinson spend £8m and him not questioning whether we have it etc

Think the players coming in are certainly improving the team / squad from last year.  If we can get Robinson back and maybe another striker - reckon we have done well.  Any improvement on last years position (and doing it a bit more comfortably) will be steps in the right direction.

I thought Robinson was done and dusted?

Everton will send him out on loan apparently once they sign that Digne fellow and Robinson signs a new deal with them. Was talk that Wigan also want him, so we'll see. Doubt it happens till near the end of August anyway.

This squad with a few more additions has enough to comfortably stay up

We will see. We look to have a better balance. Our midfield though looks very weak in both quality and numbers. I think attention is needed there. Out wide we have two big lads with pace and skill and we seem to have more mobile options up front.

But you've got to win the midfield battle in this league and I'm concerned we're not right in there, and I don't see Ireland as the answer either.

Hope Robinson goes to Wigan. Tactics:-  get the ball down the left wing and put a high ball on the far post. Their left back can't head. Amazing how many teams did that last season.

The pace of Robinson and Wildschut down the left would scare most teams, it’s been a while since we’ve had any kind of pace in the team.

Granted he’s still got some to learn, more so defensively, but he improved massively last season and now has a years worth of first team experience behind him (plus he’s a USA international).

Add to the fact that he knows the place, knows the manager and most of the team and could probably walk through the door on Friday and play on Saturday and I don’t think we could do much better.

Personally I'd love Robinson back for the same reasons Eddie mentioned

Also amazing how Robinson got better and better and stopped getting caught under the ball. Young lad learning his trade. By the end of the season he was the complete full back for this level.

Aye. For a lad to develop the way he did in that shitstorm of a season says a lot about him

Some many positives about the Robinson loan

Loan, reduced cost, unlikely Everton will want a major fee

Wages - doubt they are huge.

He already knows the club and the manager and more importantly the centre backs.

We know his capabilities.

He’s had a pre season with Everton so he’ll be fit and ready to go

for all the positivity about our signings so far, if Taylor is our first choice LB beyond the first couple of games i will be worried. very worried.

No pace, shit scared of going beyond the half way line, appears to panic when the ball is coming to him. The amount of times we got done down that side the first few games of last season was embarrasing

sure i read the Pole can play left side too? much rather have him in there with Little as RB

I'm not sure I agree. Not saying you're wrong, but food for thought on both of them...

If Wildschut is a flying winger type, then we may be better with a more traditional full-back for balance?

I thought Robinson improved over the season but liked him much more wide when we had 3 at the back

He was still positionally woeful at times and his passing and heading was poor

Taylor seemed to get worse - for example at Burton he, like others, was absolutely woeful. His head tends to drop too quickly, but if we were defending deep against a good team he's a safer option than Robinson

I think Robinson edges it, and if he can improve further then he'd be a better choice for sure. I do wonder if he's just an athlete....though he is still learning

Little played left back at Guiseley.

well, either or would fill me with more confidence than Taylor

Fair points Jules.

Taylor for me showed he was done in the second half of last season, he was no more solid in a back 4 than Robinson because he looked like he was running in quicksand, it was embarrassing seeing teams attack him over and over.

I get your point on Robinson defensively but the one thing about his pace is that what he lacks in positioning, he can get himself out of trouble and recover with pace. Taylor is just defenceless when he’s isolated.

I also think Robinson would improve with a better centre back than Beevers next to him. Beevers panics and I don’t think it’s great for a young full back to be playing next to someone so nervous. Hopefully Hobbs is going to play left centre back and can be a more calming influence.

The Forest fans seem to think Hobbs is great at reading the game. If that's the case and we can keep him fit, it makes sense to play him on that side should Robinson return, it would help him out no end.
