Toe Bungers

Having the discussion at work now. Why do toe-bungers (toe-pokes) have such stigma attached to them? And why are we taught as kids to not do them and kick through our insteps, etc.

(Topic only started cos I scored a cracker last week at 5s with a toe-bunger into the top corner!)

its an English thing... futsal encourage it, minimum back lift, optimum popwer, but less control.

the FA teach you to strike a ball with the bigger parts of your foot- this is no=w the institutionalised way of learning... we, as a nation, need to embrace a different way of playing from grass roots level... smaller, denser balls, allow kids to become footballers before playing football

Nothing wrong with it if it works, some amazing goals have been scored by doing it.

Maybe people think it lacks skill or isn't as effective as using other parts of the foot, but not many players can do what Ronaldinho did vs Chelsea.

Best toe bunger ever.

i think as kids we were discouraged from toe bungers as we played in the cold and wet and they fucking hurt if done wrong

Best toe bunger ever.

Outside of foot?

A toe bunger with an Orange Wembley Striker, I could get it to swerve all over the place, especially on a day with a slight breeze

toe bungers have no place on a football pitch, and it hurts your toes

Romario or was it Bebeto scored some brilliant toe pokes.

Outside of foot?

no- toe on the valve of the ball. this causes the ball to move more. also note Carlos's leg as  he strikes; he opens up his body to generate more power by using his thigh and calf muscles

Henrik vs Arsenal, he admitted it was just a toe bunger in the post match interview. Either way, shithouse Lehman never got near it.

Romario was the toe poke king.

Weird they are/were frowned upon as they can be lethal and accurate as fuck. Probably coz all the shit kids who couldn't play toe bunged their every kick.

Ronaldinho's for Barcelona at Chelsea was a belter.

Best toe bunger ever.

That aint no toe bung. He'd break every toe in his foot if he toe bunged it that hard.

Don't do toebungers with gymmies on you end up hopping around with a broken toe :)

Didn't he score one against West Ham too?

I think Pele used to toe bung quite often when he was one on one with the keeper - very little backlift and no change in body shape made it very difficult for keepers to read.

This is the greatest and most ironic toe-bung ever.

NFL field goal record kick until a few years ago.

Irony is that he bunged it with the front of his boot - because he was born without toes!

There's a time and a place for the toe bunger. With a shot to goal it catches the keeper unawares because they least expect it. In general play it just looks fucking daft. Mount Skip top bunger.

If you're a bit of a football spacker like some of my friends, the toebung can be quite effective at footgolf.

Even in wellies.

It must have something to do with loss of control however as mentioned earlier it can be done with a lot of control

How many Brazilians have been quoted?

Futsal, Futbol de Salao etc all have a different philosophy. Use every part of the foot... the FA are slowly catching up with the rest of the world

Always think of a game at Blackpool (I think). Ball goes across the goal about a yard out, waist high with no one near it apart from David Reeves. Got into two minds whether to jump and kick it in or drop and head it. Did neither and missed it.

Was screaming from the terraces; just put it in with your bollocks if you have to.

Ronaldinho's for Barcelona at Chelsea was a belter.

Correct

Apart from his 5th which was a header and I can't quite see where he hits 4, he pokes around for fun.

Other than a powerful header I think this type of goal is my favourite, shows a good speed of thought and control at pace.
