Watching the Stuttgart Vs Cologne match on BT. Ref has had to use the VAR on a penalty decision late in the game. He ended up reversing his decision and not awarding the pen to Cologne. Took nearly 4 mins from the original penalty to the drop ball. Even then there was still a debate to be had that it was a penalty. This will suck then life out if the game, and the terraces, if this is how it's going to be.

Funny how when refs make mistakes they are slated 

A player misses a simple open net, or even worse takes his shirt off after scoring a goal and gets booked for it, but nobody says a word despite them being paid far more 

Admit refs make mistakes. Players will miss open goals and let football be football

Can't wait to see what they think up next to ruin the game. I can't help getting the impression that some refs are loving all the drama, giving them centre stage running to there little tellys. They are gradually taking away all the things that made the game so exciting. Taking away virtually any physical contact has turned it into a sport played by thespians & acrobats.

Oh aye I completely agree, but whilst it is an offence its probably one of the most stupidest yellow cards you can pick up.

Think it was a West Ham player a few years back, already on a yellow, scores a later winner or equaliser and takes his shirt off and gets a second yellow. I'd be fuming if I was his manager

I'd also scrap foul throw rules. What significant advantage are you gaining if the ball doesn't go fully behind your head or you haven't got two feet on the floor?

I don't think there's anything wrong with the rule. Anyone who feels the need to remove their shirt for scoring a goal fully deserves a yellow card for being a knob.

Nah. If he's got a political slogan on then fair enough.

Nowt wrong with a bit of passion, just allow the refs scope to use a bit of common sense.

I do agree though, that if you're daft enough to get yourself sent off for doing it, then you need shoeing.

Over time maybe the football World will adapt and accept VAR. But after watching the ladies disallowed goal against Sweden last night I think its going to be a very painful and long transition.

 

Weighing up both sides of the argument I fall in the old school camp. I think I'm more willing to accept the injustice of a dodgy decision rather than the forensic justice that VAR brings.

If VAR goes too far, which for me it already has done, and makes its way into games at our level, I’m not sure I could stand watching any more.

Sure our home game against Wigan would have been a different outcome last year but I don’t like it 1 little bit.

Thats what I thought - used because refs and linesman cant see everything on the pitch, but when Sky/BBC are re-running at super slo mo and various/numerous angles, and even then its not always 100% obvious - doesnt sit right with me. Problem is, now its in use, how can it be discontinued??

It can be fucked off at any time, but it probably won't

The rules of its use and the margins for decisions can also be adapted, like the rules of the game are in general 

Now it's here I'm sure it will evolve

Offsides : Referees call - if less than 4 inch either way, referees/linesmans call stands.

VAR - 40 seconds to view and change mind, otherwise decision stands.

VAR is currently re-refereeing games.

Clear and obvious. Balls to inches. That said even C&O will cause interperation problems. Pandoras box is open now. We're fucked.

Today VAR (spit) came to the Premier League (spit). Now I'm not a fan of VAR and we have had Shearer floating around saying it's a good thing and will only be used for clear & obvious errors. OK, but is this the thin end of the wedge? Is being offside by a toenail a clear and obvious error? Or is it valid because it's just upholding the laws of the game? We're never going to get a perfect game. But do we want to get as close as we can and erode the Wilbraham moments?

Lineker made the point last night, if you're going to try to be so accurate, how do you decide when the ball was played?

For a few frames the ball is on the player's foot, so it it when it first contacts the foot of when it leaves it?

During that time the runner can have gone from being on to off. It's spoiling the game.

They take the last frame where there is space between the ball and the foot, and then use the next frame.

Explained it on SKy the other night.

Its bollocks however, as Ive said before, they should follow crickets lead and have a 6 inch either way 'linesmans decision' to allow for errors.

Although I'd prefer them to scrap it all together and just keep Goal Line Tech.
