Anecdotal only but I heard he played Bolton Albert Halls and over ran so long that the security guy came to the side of the stage and attracted Ken Dodd's attention. Ken went over and the security guy explained that his shift had finished at midnight and could he ask if anyone in the audience could lock up for him after the show. I assume he meant was anyone in the audience on the Town Hall pay roll who knew the locking up systems.

March 14, 20188 yr What a shame. But what a life. A couple of weeks ago I nearly started a thread asking who people would put on the vacant plinth in Trafalgar Square. Stephen Hawking would have been my pick. Not just for his contributions to science - but also because he's spent a lifetime overcoming adversity with good humour and good grace. People like him make me proud to be British.
