I just prefer it, Edinburgh is a bit too twee in parts (don’t get me wrong it’s a great city) but I’ve always had better times in Glasgow.

 

Edinburgh sort of wears its beauty on its sleeve but Glasgow reveals its charms to you if you seek them out.

I'm sure the cities are ace but you have to visit the Highlands/Islands at least once.   Zico said Edinburgh was like Lord of the Rings, the whole of the Highlands are - and to go all Top Gear . . . with some of the best driving roads in the world!

Loved this place when I was there a few years ago. Decent food and a banging playlist over the speakers. Rammed and needs booking well in advance

The Kitchin if you're thinking Michelin fancy

Ardfern in Leith is lovely. Fancy in quality but more affordable.

I'd really recommend the Port of Leith Distillery. Food is overpriced but tasty. It's 8 floors up right on the Shore - beautiful views over the city, across to Fife and down to Queensferry. It really is beautiful - ask for a window seat in advance.

Tapa round the corner from there is ace, they specialise in Iberian black pig so a bit different to the usual tapas place

ardfern tbat @London Wanderer recommended is very good as is the sister restaurant he little chart room which is as close to a Michelin star as you will get on a Sunday 

 

Scran and scallie is Tom kitchins place and open Sundays and very good

Get train to Waverley and then I would get someone to show you the calton rd exit  lift up and then one back down but when you then come out that exit you turn left up the road for 100 yards and you are next to the omni centre and miss out a raft of roads to cross etc 

 

there's a spoons 300 yards down from where you come out on way to ground

Waverley best to get to the ground mate. It’s 20 mins / half an hour down the hill from there.

Alternatively you can get off at Haymarket & catch the tram to Leith.
