Wanderers 1-3 Preston

Gazing a little bit further down the line here, but what do you learned folk think the chances are of them re-arranging the home game against Preston on March 3?

Bearing in mind they've already moved Boro v Leeds to the Friday night and Wolves v Reading to Saturday evening so Sky/EFL have had a rummage through that weekend's fixtures already... but could our game still be moved for police advice, how late did they leave it in advance of the away game before moving it?

For me biggest game of season this. Win this and all those bottom teams will shit their pants as they’ll realise we’re staying up. Couldn’t be more proud of players and manager for sticking together a

You have the benefit of hindsight so know how Preston pressed us

Give us your team to beat them yesterday

it’s not about beating them as we all knew it was going to be hard game and most would of taken a point

Fulham are one of the best teams we have faced they pressed and we just about coped ok did ride our luck at times

Regarding yesterday I wouldn’t of changed it too much probably started with Le Fondre and Taylor

Ameobi didn’t look fit to me and seemed to be looking over to the bench early on

I’ve played as a centre back for years, and it just irritates me how little in confidence the defence has in keeping the ball.

It is the midfields fault as well, as they should be creating options.

But yesterday Dervite had so many chances to bring the ball forward into midfield and create opportunities.

We need a centre back like we had in Holding, who was composed on the ball and would take the ball forward as an extra unmarked man.

It’s the players fault, but more so the manager, as it’s obvious that he trains the players not to keep the ball and just smash it.

Ameobi needs a rest

Ameobi is off the boil in inclement weather. When the sun is out he’s brilliant, shit weather and he’s average.

We’d have had a better chance if Henry and Little would of been available Karacan is a waste of time unless he is given freedom to roam and Kirchoff should have started instead of him,I really don’t get why Vela is virtually first name on team sheet and playing walker up front was a mistake both shouldn’t of started. However the big misses weren’t available and it’s difficult to see us cobbling a winning team from the players available.

I think we knock it long because our midfield can’t be trusted on the ball.

Parkinson probably knew this hence why he’s not at a better club or why he couldn’t get a run at Newcastle last season

He needs a lucky egg

It’s true, the whole team is just not confident on the ball, only 1 or 2 players can look forward and bring it

You’d expect a championship team full of professionals, to be able to have composure on the ball.

If we stay up, I’d still like us to give Parky a chance with more resources, but I really don’t believe he has it in him tactically to try and play a different way than he’s been acustomed to in his years in League 1 and 2.

Laying midfield's failure at the feet of Karacan is unfair.

In and mostly out of the side, playing different roles, was very good in the two previous games since being recalled.

Inconsistent, yes.

But if he wasn't inconsistent, he wouldn't have been joining a league 1 club in late season from free agency.

That said, he wouldn't get in my midfield for our next game.

Alex Neil is a cracking manager IMHO. I reckon he'll end up at a big club one of these days....

Our 3 centre backs are certainly much of a muchness when it comes to their qualities and failings. Burke isn't all that much different.

I think Little and Henry need to be straight back in the team for Reading and I'd pick ALF up front against his old club.

Parky reminds me of Phil neal, stabilised the club at a difficult time got us promoted will hopefully keep us up but can't see him taking us forward in the long term.

The squad we have isn't as bad as being made out. We should be able to play more than one way. No excuses. I rate the job pp has done but this is where he falls down sometimes.

Preston had done their homework and used the exact same tactic that Fulham did when they caused us the most trouble - get the ball over the top of our defence or into the space in the channels as soon as you can and make them face their own goal, each one of the 3 shits themselves when they’re in that position. They are so bad on the ball its embarrassing, IMO if you have 3 at the back then one needs to be Burke, just to add a little bit of pace and some composure on the ball.

The lack of possession starts at the back, they have no intention of having the ball but there is also a lack of ball players ahead of them. Generally if 1 of the midfield drops to take the ball off them, say Karacan then there is only really Ameobi ahead of him that will take the ball, Pratley, Henry and Vela aren’t good enough on the ball/rarely show for it, the striker is covered by a number of defenders and the wing backs are on their own out wide because there’s no midfielder ahead of them - therefore it usually ends up back with the centre backs who end up launching it. There’s also the issue that as soon as there is any sort of pressure on them they panic like mad and just clear the lines.

I’m still not convinced that 3 at the back works for us - it seems to be the way that we have had to accommodate the loss of Madine and therefore get 2 up front but it causes more problems than it solves.

You can tell within the 1st 10 minutes with Ameobi whether he will be brilliant or shit, it usually sets the tone and he very rarely goes on to play well if he starts the game badly - as someone else has said it’s usually the cold/wet days where he has his poor games.

If Kirchoff is fit then I think we could use Pratley higher up the pitch - he’s got the energy to get up and support a lone striker and adds height further up the pitch too.

The big question is who is the 1 up front - I think ALF has the best movement and can actually use his body to cause the defence the most problems, he’s also the best option for a chance to fall to so I’d go with him and give him a run of 3 or 4 games.

We’re not going to completely change the way we play at this stage of the season but I do think that we could improve with a few tweaks, against Reading I’d go with

Little Wheater Burke Robinson

Henry Kirchoff

Ameobi Pratley Morais

ALF

Vela looked completely lost yesterday, but Pratley had the best game I’ve seen for some time. However both need Henry with them to do the simple stuff.

Their no.4 was always wanting the ball and had a really good game, but the space he had without being pressed was unacceptable.

Totally agree.

marc iles gave Wheater and Beevers 6.5 out of 10 yesterday and Pratley 4.5 he's watching a different game to me

we said the same about Ameobi yesterday if he goes around a couple of defenders early on he tends to play well

marc iles gave Wheater and Beevers 6.5 out of 10 yesterday and Pratley 4.5 he's watching a different game to me

4.5! He wasn’t at the macron yesterday.

Iles needs to fuck off from the BN he’s not got a clue.

3 at the back works if you have a balance either side. I thought it was ok first half with Morais and Robinson.

Too many gaps across the back four when he changed it. Add to that a complete lack of defensive responsibility from Ameobi hanging Dervitte out to dry. All be it Ameobi was knackered and should have been replaced.

Parkinson fucked up big time.

Preston were better

Iles needs to fuck off from the BN he’s not got a clue.

take parky with him, both have the same opinion

Totally agree.

So, how many of our players would get a gig elsewhere in this league

Bearng in mind they're pretty much all unwanted when We get them

We have a way of playing, battling, and it usually gets us something at home but most teams have better players than us
