Wolves 97

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/look-back-bolton-v-wolves-2521912

Just come across this article, great read of that legendary match against Wolves in 1997.

I found myself struggling to contain my laughter at bits of the article further down.

Particularly the bit involving Lofty the Lion and the Wolves fans.

And how he did his muscular taunting poses at the Wolves fans, to which they retaliated throwing “meat pies” at lofty.

I never saw the game, but wish I did.

Would love to see similar scenes at the weekend.

expecting to turn a team over that included Taggart, Fairclough, Pollock, Sheridan, SJM & Blake & Green had his teeth in a jar from the wednesday before..

deserved the 2 hidings they got on that pitch

Anyone remember the BEN ran a Lofty is innocent poster the next week ?

Beast of a team that season

Superb game and season.

Absolute nails, them lads. Took no shit from anyone.

you'd naturally think of the Taggarts & Sheridans etc but Fairclough was the one apparently

A proper game that. When football was  (still) played by real men.

As evidenced by the punch he landed on Steve Bull's chin that day.

Gudni was another who could handle himself.

It's the same with Amateur football, get a gang of players together who can handle themselves and you'll normally get a decent side with a winning mentality.

You don't win owt wi' mard arses.

Still need a bit of quality, and there was plenty of that too

Ace game, ace season

As said above hard as fuckin nails that team.

Crazy gang my arse.

Was there ever a less suited winger than Jamie Pollock?

The term 'Proud to be a Wanderer' had never been more fitting.

I loved him but he was wasted out there.

Remember him steaming through some fucker right in front of ESL and charging up to our fans pumping his fist.

One of them players I can’t remember leaving though.

One of my favourite games of all time. Was proper nervous beforehand but we absolutely pumped them

The Wolves game was the first match I ever went to. All downhill from there.

I remember the “Liverpool get a Pollocking” Mirror(?) headline being read out on The Big Breakfast of all things after we drew with them in 97/98.

The paddock was fookin mental that day.

Probably posted on here before but my everlasting memory of that day is a bloke in full army gear and a proper balaclava with eye holes cut out on the segregation fence making throat slitting gestures to the wolves fans.

When McGinlay scored that little bit of no mans land that was at the bottom corner of the paddock filled up like a mosh pit at a rock concert with blokes going mad.

What a place that was at times.

That is also my only memory of stig tofting

Could possibly be the same incident but one of us has the player in question mixed up.

One mystery we will probably never solve and is probably best being spoke about in someone’s kitchen at 3am.

That, I’m fairly sure, was Mad Gaz. Drives a truck now.

Anyway

I’ve been getting shitlods I’d stick off the doghead cunts at work all day. Whilst I know Saturday will be shit, I simply start chanting Supa John as they drone on about their billions and it makes their blood boil.

We’ve shit ‘em. And they know it.

Didn't he do the same at 5-0 down at Sheffield ?

Remember the Lofty incident vividly but struggling with the 21 man brawl, I'm not having it that David Lee got involved
