am quite happy with gravy or curry sauce on fish & chips

regardless, there must always be salt and vinegar

and if I'm feeling posh, tartare sauce, though ironically I normally save that for fish finger butties

and a few slices or warbies thick white doens't go amiss

gravy is acceptable with fish and chips but only over the chips and the fish on top.

I love Harry Ramsdens but Whiteheads on Halliwell Rd are top notch for this. Travel from Howfen for this.

Think they do them in olympus chippy but I never get far enough down the menu past "pastie barm"

For complete transparency H:

I've never been to olympus chippy

I've never had a pastie barm

I had turmeric fish goujon on toasted brioche with a dill mayo for my tea yesterday. Gousto. Try it!

One hasn’t ventured to that part of town since the infamous ‘Nathan Blake woz ‘ere’ tattoo at Steph’s circa 1997

Is the correct answer

Uni lad just had a video of a girl putting Mayonnaise on her mixed meat curry and special fried rice from a Chinese take away!

I love Mayo, but fuck me, that’s gone too far

Some controversial stuff posted on here tonight 😀

One everyones missed out is that flour cakes bought at chip shops are always dry and  bits dropping off.

Blimey. You'd think that we take things seriously on here....

peas, mushy or otherwise, can fuck off. The devil's droppings.

Went to Preston on Saturday for the first time in ages, the black pea van has gone from the city square, gutted.

Black peys have to be drowned in vinegar.

I know, for some unknown reason, they call them parched peas in Preston.

Anyway, to get back on track - Chinese anyone?

Clearly I am not only a deviant but a wrong one as well, as the only time I really enjoyed vinegar was with tripe (can you even buy it anywhere these days?).

Used to go to the UCP (United Cattle Products - I jest not!) when it was on Newport Street and buy honeycomb tripe for my mother and father as well as other delicacies such as cow heel (served as a stew) and pigs belly (which my father ate heavily peppered).

Can't say I was a big fan of offal but I was brought up on it.

I think Howard is from a different planet to me if he indulges himself on Cinzano's and I suspect the nearest he comes to chips (other than at the casino) is when he either opens a bag of what we would call 'crisp's' or if he's ordered Belgium Pomme Frities and Mayonaise.  Good luck to him though certainly beats eating cow's belly's any day of the week.

I don't think curry sauce had ever made its way as far north as Bolton in my youth, the first curry I ever had was from a Vesta packet meal!

Nat Lofthouse, Wyn Davies and Francis Lee were in the team back then, probably would do a whole lot better than Donaldson even now.

Happy days, long ago - and mostly vinegar free.

I'm sorry but tripe without vinegar is sacrilege. And cowheel needs serious boiling, preferably with barley, carrots and onions so it is inevitably a delicious, gelatinous and partially nutritious stew.

Not sure what you are on about?

I do like tripe with vinegar - that's precisely what I said - and what you quoted me as saying???
