It seems fairly reasonable to try a different approach. We cannot keep trying the same method and not getting the players through.

The foundations are being put into place but there is s long way to go yet. We need better results quickly.

Oh for a Greaves, Sam or Bruce to lead us out of the wilderness.

A Derby winner still in training over fences at the age of 42, ridden by an 85yo amateur jockey who’s yet to ride under rules? I just don’t see it.

Amen to that brother

I can get that to a point, but at some point these youngsters have to be blooded to give them that experience and physical 'baptism' to find out if they can manage it.

As well as they may be coached, at some point they have to be given an opportunity to "grow up" for the want of a better description.

I don't suppose it helps if there's little correlation between what the first team and the youth set up are doing.

The interview with TP suggests that they are looking for this sort of continuity, which seems perfectly reasonable.

It takes a while for players to come through. It's not long ago that a fair few were saying that Chris Basham and Aaron Mooy were at Blackpool and St. Mirren respectively for a reason. Anyway, if you don't give plsyers a chance it's more than likely they won't make the grade.

Anyway, putting 18 yos in the team in L2 in physical positions like centre half is a non starter. No matter how good they are.  Different at 21.

Mate, where are david lees babes now

We can start with earing if you like

I might be wrong, but don't the best players generally tend to force themselves through regardless?

The ones who have good enough (Vela, Clough, Holding, Connell, Politic, Darcy) made it through as teenagers and held down a place.

Not saying Lee got a fantastic record but not all bad. Perhaps there’s more I’ve forgot.

Turner, newcastle,

Darcy one of our better lads

Politic starter

Holden 2-3 million to Arsenal

Vela on loan Shrewsbury

clough 3 million to Forest

Lavelle captain at Morecambe

basham possibly?  at Sheffield

graham started a few for us

senior stared a few for us

Connolly Celtic

Firstly, im on about the team that won the league

Secondly, vela is 26

So we are talking a range of 10 years

And many of em started with us when we were in a much better place to attract players

Turner will never be a prem keeper and who is lavelle

Anyway, lee is a snivelling little twat, so he couldve found the new messi and id still be happy to see the back of him  :)

Ahh, sam lavelle

A year for us at 20

Not having him, im afraid

The scouting has been the problem down the years at Bolton. Players like Dale Stephens, Ashley Fletcher are Born in the town yet they slipped the net, then Craig Dawson was playing for Radcliffe  Boro. Then we had Brookes and Ramsdale at b/mouth as kids Them two alone would cost £30m.

Won't disagree with that, though there may be an opportunity to engage with a greater number of smaller local companies at League Two level that might have been the case when chasing big corporate bucks in the Championship or Prem.

Attract smaller local companies with the promise of ten years with a maximum 5% p.a. increase so that any ambition showed by the club to get back up the leagues doesn't mean these companies are fired off as soon as any successes are seen would be my selling point.

Agree on the scouting and player selection you can go back to missing out on Alan Ball and Martin Dobson, it’s always been very poor.

Ok I’ll take that one back but there’s a few million pound of talent Lee has brought through,  probably should have done better but I’d think 1 first teamer from each year group would be classed as a success and I’d say Lee has done ok.  Let’s see what the new set up brings. 🤞

Fletcher first played at Bolton 🤪

When Craig Dawson was playing at Radcliffe, we were playing in Europe 🤪

Apart from Kevin Davies I cannot think of a player  we have signed from another English club whose stock rose once he played for us.

Why did we not take a punt on players like Dean Ashton, Danny Murphy, Robbie Savage , Neil Lennon, Jamie Vardy  Danny ings

All released or went for next to nothing from local clubs.....You could proberbly add another 30 names on top of those yet we overlooked all these.

Gary Cahill? I suspect the issue is when you're shopping in mid-market price rannges as we did in the premiership days when we spent money there was little value in the English market and we tended to want ready to make an impact players rather than risks....

Not sure why this has all became about Lee, do the young lads not exist before they get to him ?

Vardy was a massive miss, playing locally when we were in the prem could of nicked him for a million he could of made the difference if we’d of signed him, wonder if our scouts had a look.

Plenty of others missed him as well though. For every Vardy, there’s a Sordell.

Freedman could have signed Ings for 750k, but turned the deal down because he didn't want to pay that much!

Imagine more that he was told not to spend that much...ED was tightening the purse strings then, severely.

I don't think they have - as said above for every Danny Ings there are probably 25 Marvin Sordell's and its not easy to tell them apart.

For a long long time Vardy looked like an error for example.

Generally there isn't much value unless you spend a fortune or are hardly spending anything. In the premiership when we were there, spending in the middle range got you the likes of Knight.

In fact I would say going all the way back to Rioch our signings of English players has just not been good enough.

Look at Rioch s team   Brannigan, Stubbs McAteer, Lee, McGinley,Thomson...walker,coyle and mixu all signed for next to nothing bought  to the club and all went at a profit

9 Players who we bought for peanuts and went on to give the club good service..We have not had 9 players do that in the 25 years since
