The vaccination programme is looking magnificent so far.

If the producers are struggling to keep up then we cannot blame Hancock.

The infrastructure is obviously there to get the job done quickly.

Top marks to Boris and co on this one as things stand.

As you say massive credit to the Govt on this. The decision to get the army involved in the logistics and to have a clear plan rather than just soundbites shows they have learned the lesson from earlier efforts.

This is one of the few things they did not proclaim as 'best in the world' and it really does seem to be up there. I genuinely hope the science behind the 12 weeks gap holds up.

British people are at their best when they just get on with stuff in a modest, workmanlike way. Rather than claiming every day as a massive victory for some reason or other.

Govt take shit about eat out to help out, but that is based on latest understanding of how virus transmits in the air. No one realised this at the time.

No fan of Boris but blaming him for not having a time machine is harsh.

I think the west has fucked up massivley - China and South Korea told the world back in Februray, that the spread was airborne  -

On the 3rd of March Boris held a press conference telling us that he was shaking hands with patients in hospitals.

There were videos from experts in the UK like the one below, videos coming out of the east showing how to deal with this - severe lockdown, mask up, close the borders, test, isolate, chase down the cases, open up when you have zero cases, not when youve still got at least 500 testing positive every day.  If John Campbell, a retired nurse from Carlisle knew what was going on back in Feb, the government knew too.

Right up until early winter we've had folk, government, general public, business owners etc saying it's safe to go to pubs and restaurants and school and work, the supermarket, abroad, church etc whilst there was still underlying cases every day - everyone pushing their own agenda - pub and restaurant owners saying they were safe for example, making pie charts out of cherry picked data  - it's a fucking virus that hangs around in the air inside enclosed spaces. If you go into a room where someone has breathed out viral particles earlier on, you might breath them in - that's it in a nutshell, and we've know this for almost a year. Everything should have been based on improving ventilation, minimising indoor time.

I'm not blaming Boris, most of the west and initially the WHO has consitently wanted to open up as soon as possible, lockdown late, because they wanted to protect the economy first.

who the fuck was telling Boris what to say - why did they ignore the approach of countries that were successful - that is what will come out in the end

I think they will need more than that to get to the mid Feb target now. But if volumes continue to grow at current rate won't be far off. Based on working 7 days a week.

If this is the number injected the 'offered' number which is the target should be higher

My mum and mother in law, last surving Aunty and Uncle, all in their 80s have been vaccinated.

The total figures are very encouraging. I am sure we would all like it to be even higher, but they are doing a great job.

300k a day breaks the 2mill a week target.

At the rate they are upscaling 3mill a week should be acheivable.

Rule Bri-fucking-tannia you suasage-sucking, bagutte-bothering, tank-reversing, bull-fucking lazy european cunts.

Looks to me like weekly figures are going to be the best thing to look at. Our local vaccination centre have said that they are expecting a weekly delivery of vaccines every Wednesday which they will have used by Friday. Might be similar in other places.

Culturally, I don't think the west was prepared.

We've seen outbreaks of sars etc "over there" but didn't get hit by them; almost as if we never truly believed it could happen here.

Always seemed odd seeing Japanese folk on the TV wearing masks, even well before tha pandemic.

We've seen very little flu this season, so maybe there are some basic things we can all do in the future, to keep levels of illness down.

Despite all the mask wearing and crowd reduction at yesterday's inauguration, you still saw folk shaking hands and hugging. Perhaps we should all start bowing like the Japanese. :)

Hmmm.  Not sure we should be following Japan's lead.  They fuck dolphins' blowholes and stick octopi up their minges - The Gonzo has shown me the videos.

The 2m was mentioned from time to time, as I think its a rough average of what would be needed to hit the February target.

Of course, that in itself can lead to criticism..

I still think getting over 12mill by 15/2 is a great effort.

They hit so few targets, they deserve kudos for any they do.

Tbf few on here said should go low on targets. This is hitting a really tough target and probably one of the most important.

Have you forgotten kent's post about this months ago?

PHE locally had been decimated by previous cuts/changes. Staff numbers weren't available to do all the testing/tracing.

Looking back now, obviously it would have been better if they had been.

However, something had to be done- the testing industry has been built up very well.

The tracing bit, much less so, clearly.

Several times a week I go past the testing centre at leverhulme park: Well organised, lots of staff directing cars. Poor buggers out in all weathers, having to speak to every driver- however small, that still represents more risk than most of us have to put up with.

I think the criticism aimed at some of these people is hugely unreasonable.

Moreover, we would probably have had to expand PHE provision any how, which would have required time.

Be good to see what the eventual inquiry comes up with, and what recommendations it makes for the future.

all very good points

you give some leeway because it's the first time it's happened to us

but you could see it sweeping over from the east, through Europe to the UK, and we didn't even take notice of what was happening in Italy and Spain

said at the time, there won't be a second wave when we came out of lockdown in the summer, because the first one hadn't even finished
