Yep.

Pretty much what the response was, but more polite.

Dr Hilary was saying this morning there was a massive percentage ( I think he said 72%) of BAME  who said they wouldn’t take it. He also said the basics of how a vaccine works should be taught in schools to stop all the stupidity surrounding them.

Edit * here it is

fully agree

Makes sense, though we all get taught some basic science and loads of info has been made available in the media by experts.

Would it be enough to overcome some myths and cultural blockages to a better approach?

Loads of doctors and medical folk in the nhs from BAME background, yet still some shit pervades.

The protection levels are defined by the results of the testing regime undertaken by the manufacturer: in this case Pfizer.

The information is reviewed for accuracy and then has to go through mhra approval.

The scientists looking at the data will do so very critically, so for them to accept the 89% there must have been very strong evidence.

Why its now being seen as 33% is very strange- we need peelyfeet urgently.

The virologits I follow don't seem overley concerned about the results, but they all say it would be better if we could get the 2nd dose in the timeframe recommended.

The 33% needs to be taken with a massive pinch of salt - it's very preliminary, and is a measurement of test positivity 14 days after taking the fist shot. It doesn't tell us anything about onward transmission, or changes in the seriousness of infection

Antibodies take about 10 days to get to a decent level, so anyone catching the virus in the first few days after having the vaccine would have very little additional defence against it anyway - there's quite a few experts suggesting that when we see the full data it will likely show that of those who did catch it after the vaccine, most of them were in the few days after the shot, and the overall severity was lower.

Most vaccines can't protect anyone from "catching" a disease, they just enable your immune system to deal with it really quickly, so that in essence it appears that you've not actually had the disease, and in some cases you won't find it in a test either, but that doesnt mean to say the virus hasnt been in some of your cells and dealt with by your imuune system.

But they all think the 2nd booster builds up the immune system much better - they can literally see a massive spike in antibodies a few days after having the 2nd shot.

Nah just a massive cock

Cheers Peely: I suspected that may be the case- infection just before/after jab.

Be interesting to see if a number have fucked off the protective measures immediately too, rather than wait until they're fully ready.

Yep - I bet there's some of that too. I suspect, when it all plays out that we will see a much bigger drop in the % of the vaccinated needing hospitalisation, which is what we care about ultimatley, and I bet they'll be much less likley to pass it on if they do catch it after vaccination than those who catch it without vaccination.  We'll soon see.

Thanks as always for your replies Peely. Measured and reassuring as always.

Saga to require people to be vaccinated before they travel

For you older, cruising, folks

Do you get a letter and then you have to phone? Or will you just get a call telling you to come in at a certain time?

Dad has his today , at Breightmet health centre , said it was very well organised, no issues with anything and was told he’d get a letter in 10 weeks for his next appointment for his 2nd dose at 12 weeks. Seems they have it well arranged up at Dunstan ( possibly everywhere)

Was weird, wasn’t with him or anything, knew he was going at 12:20 but was quite emotional when I got the text off him 12:40 to say he’d been done and back home, Today was the first step towards out of it for me.

Dirty twats.

I think you may get a letter but thats normally saying get an appointment at a big centre

Local centre that I know about doesn't use letters...its costly and takes forever and you don't know if its been received

It does mean you can get 2 offers

Got my first jab booked in for Saturday evening at the Etihad.
