Why would they self isolate?

Unless they've come into contact with someone who has got it or visited an area that the government says necessitates it, they shouldn't be.

Because they fancy a couple of weeks off, instead of turning up for 9 quid an houri n a freezing cold factory

When exam results start to suffer, they’ll blame the government. It’s always the governments fault.
When students grow up they’ll realise (most of them) that they were misled and that the real world isn’t ideological after all. C’est la vie.

Folk using this virus to skip work are low down the list of concerns I’d imagine.

Besides, most employees have better integrity than that. If someone is only earning £9 an hour I doubt it’s critical if they make it in or not in the grand scheme of things

I would be more afraid of us having to build a hospital from scratch in a week, it takes us 30 years to build another runway in London ffs

I've lost plenty on my pension fund this week. I knew what what was going to happen on Sunday with Italy. It took 3 working days to clear into a cash fund. Absolute joke.

The virus I ain't worried about but people being absolute weapons and clearing shelves is the worry!

Your quite right, it’s only Tea, stay at home rather than risk killing someone, just to be a hero that goes into work in all weather

Very few professions are really critical are they, the Health Service the obvious exception

All things considered, you're probably right. Don't want folk scrounging, but equally, if any doubt, just keep away.

Trouble as I see it is...that’s sensible.....but once this thing is out there and given the Surrey case it probably already is, anyone with cold symptoms would need to take two weeks off to be sure. You’re not going to be able to test everyone with symptoms. So, get a cough....two weeks plus at home in isolation. Will stop it spreading. But you might just have a normal cold. 80% of cases can’t be distinguished by severity or symptoms.

Had a segment on the news the other day showing these drive through testing areas that PHE were setting up, simple swab without you needing to get out of your car

The big decision that the government have (all governments) is economy v Health service

Do they lock things down, cancel football matches, lock down schools that get infected, work places etc in order to reduce the speed of spread and flow of patients into hospitals

Or try to protect the economy with a business as usual policy that risks spreading the virus quickly and overrunning the health service (killing more people no doubt)

It would be a brave government that backs the Economy over the health service and tens of thousands of lives

Drive throughs are good now because any risk can be tested. The worry is that there is some suggestions in Japan that throat swans are only about 70% reliable fo this virus.

But if this thing breaks out in the UK are you suggesting everyone with a cough or potential symptoms - millions of people in any one day will rock up at a drive through? Can’t see that working.

Always a risk of folk over egging it, but surely if there's no fever, there's an indication you're more than likely to have a cold.

Plenty of information, and 111 service to get qualification of whether symptoms are characteristic of coronavirus or not.

Again the early disease seems to present as a mild fever but not always. You’re going to struggle to distinguish. I’d say basically impossible. You can have a slight fever with a cold.

If you really want to stop it then anyone showing symptoms should isolate. If we are in full blown breakout that probably means an automatic two week isolation. If you really want to slow it.

Ringing 111 means nowt if someone is looking for a couple of weeks on the sofa watching telly.

Ring up work and say you have all the symptoms and job done.

A big spread could utterly fuck the economy.

My mate just said the ones still on board ship are locked in individual cabins now that the paying passengers have gone.

I questioned the "locked in" bit and he said the doors aren't actually locked but Japanese police are patrolling and will arrest anyone for breaking their quarantine.

So they will arrest them and take them off the ship. Am I missing something?
