This investigation highlights some strange government decisions on covid planning and PPE guidelines.  There are some serious questions to be answered IMO.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-52440641

Panorama also investigated changes to the government guidance on what PPE NHS staff should wear.

In January this year, Covid-19 was officially designated a High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID). The decision was made in consultation with a group of British experts.

A Health and Safety Executive evaluation of PPE published in 2019 had already recommended that all healthcare workers should wear a gown, FFP3 respirator mask and visor when dealing with HCIDs.

Those recommendations were in line with existing UK guidance.

But on 13 March this year, the government downgraded its guidance on PPE and told NHS staff they were safe to wear less protective aprons and basic surgical masks in all but the most high risk circumstances.

Panorama understands that on the same day, the government took steps to remove Covid-19 from the list of HCIDs.

But the experts who had recommended the coronavirus be put on the list in the first place were not consulted. Instead, the government asked its Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP).

I'm not convinced the beeb are telling the whole story, just some select bits to get people wound up. Not like the media to do that is it.🙄

Amazing how different some women can look depending on makeup, clothes etc. The previous one looked like a different person at first.

i think she looks prettier in later pictures but I quite like it when she looks less pretty and more filthy. Of course there's probably a happy medium to be found...

I'm in favour of it. Given the choice between a supermarket where everyone is masked up or no one is I'd go for the former, think it will be the way to get more things open without spiking the infection rates to dangerous levels.

Isn’t this something along the lines that they’ve been doing in the Czech Republic as per @Boby Brno?

Panorama also quoted someone from the ACDP as telling them it was in part a pragmatic decision, based on the availability of PPE.

Which is obvious isn't it? We started out with one set of PPE standards, then downgraded them to something we could actually get close to delivering.

But instead of just saying that, which would involve admitting to a mistake, they'd rather claim it was science and bluster about delivering a billion pieces of PPE (the majority of which are individual gloves, cleaning products, paper towels, bin bags and relatively useless aprons).

There's a difference between wanting to get behind the home team just sticking your head in the sand.

Absolutely.  Some on here think we should sit like nodding dogs applauding every move of the government and just accept whatever they say.

Why make indirect comments about people and then hide behind a they can make their own minds up?

either say it or don’t? Surely that’s the most appropriate way to be?

I think we're all a bit fed up

This latest news about kids dying with no underlying issues, symptoms like stomach ache and diarrhoea is really worrying any rise in these type of deaths really will be a kick in the bollocks.

When did you start making the rules? I’ll decide what is appropriate thanks.

This is grim - the ONS are saying another 7,000+ deaths have been registered as CV19 that are not on the daily figures.

I assume these won't be added to the figures? Don't see why not if that's the cause on the death certificate.

Government have done well so far in the main, but not adding these seems churlish.

That is a worry, I heard a bit on the radio today, apparently it's like toxic shock syndrome. If it is proved that its COVID-19 related, then the game changes again, and we enter a proper lockdown, and absolutely no way do the schools go back anytime soon.
