Me neither, to be honest. I think if clubs conduct more than one interview then they also have to interview a BAME candidate. But if they don't bother with a full recruitment process then they don't.

Any ideas of the number of minorities actually doing their coaching qualifications?

If it's low, then maybe this is where the changes need to start in order to get more info management. But again people have to actually want to do it in the first place.

Are you 12? We were Div 2-3 (in real terms pre prem) perennial yoyo until 96 and will be back to that status at least soon given how well club is being run.

Genuinely wish you all the best. I have relatives near Torpoint who are STHs and Green’s my favourite colour.
But  you’ve spent around 30 of the last 50 years at L1&L2.

I think Plymouth have massive potential with the way your club appears to be operating. Decent stadium now (which would’ve been much bigger if we won the World Cup bid), and more fans could get on board.

Brighton getting 30k+ in the Prem just goes to show there’s potential for more interest in big catchment areas.

The same has been said for years about the likes of Bristol City too I guess.

I might have my Championship manager head on, and I know it’s the same for a lot of clubs, but as a manager I’d not be entirely happy setting up a team with players I didn’t have a say in signing. That would be a stumbling block for some potential candidates surely.

Look at Middlesbrough, they lost 3-0 to Swansea today, so they're now 2 points above the bottom 3.

They were in the Premier League in 2016/17. Huddersfield and Stoke are only one point above them too!

Middlesbrough's owner is worth 270 million to be fair but since they got relegated from the PL with Aitor Karanka, they've had a good manager in Garry Monk come and go, spending a decent amount of money, then Tony Pulis with little success and now they've gone for a cheaper option in Jonathan Woodgate with little money to spend and they're looking pretty shite.

Just shows even if you've got loads of money, you need a good structure in order to get the most out of it. A lot of clubs strike gold with a manager, whether it's Big Sam, Chris Wilder, you could say Klopp for Liverpool or Fergie for United. Once they're gone, it's hard to maintain the success they brought unless there is an underlying system in place to carry on without them.

That's what the Director of Football role is supposed to prevent. Now I guess you could say, "what happens when Tobias Phoenix moves on?", I think the point is that the owner/chairman has the vision, for example, to have a DoF who finds players with good technical qualities, then have a coach who focuses on development of the players. It would be quite similar to having an owner who only employs managers who play it on the deck, or only choose managers that play direct football, but the main difference is recruitment. The DoF eliminates the "They're not my players" argument, because the players have been recruited by someone else every time. It is your job as the coach to make those players work, it doesn't mean you can't have input on the recruitment process but it takes that responsibility out of your remit for the most part.

Everton are trying a new DoF system at the minute but they're still very average, I'm not saying it's the future but it is worth a shot given how our previous regimes have gone.

I agree, addressing the issue at grass roots and ensuring opportunities for coaching quals will help.

And I would guess its a process that’s cyclical, from top to bottom. The BAME communities would see more being shortlisted and interviewed and consequently more becoming involved in management/coaching, then more would take the coaching quals.

I’m not saying someone should get the job based on the colour of their skin, no way, that should go to the best man/woman for the job, just that the process to get there becomes more inclusive.

This all makes perfect sense to me, but there’s still something I don’t get.
What if the buck lies with the DOF recruiting badly, and the manager can’t do anymore with a poor squad?

Will DOF’s start to come and go like managers?

Yes. An example of that was the bloke at Everton (previously Leicester) being replaced by Marcel Brands

It’s a bold move if it’s Evatt considering it is a huge season for us.

I like it.

Always a gamble recruiting a new manager, Evatt seems to fit in with the FV younger type manager/coach role criteria, I think most Bolton fans would be happy if we appointed him and I certainly wouldn't criticise FV if it goes belly up.

Ryan Lowe has put £20 on Evatt to push his odds longer. Then Sharon will lump a million on and we’ll end up with a massive budget.

Cant believe I’m the only one that sees it,

Exactly, no rumours at all. FV do keep their cards close to their chest.

Not even a timeframe, by that i mean, will there be a quick appointment, are they taking their time.

Maybe they're sounding out Rudy as to the viability of making an approach for Pep.

Pep can feck off - no experience at L2, no good with no money. Stupid to even consider him.

give it Hillcroft
