I'm sitll confused

if Wigan stay up, are they going to be on -12 in the Championship next season?

I think no

Just heard

How very sad

ok

so

-12 now

takes them to 38, 4 points off safety, so they still have a chance to stay up, and start next season in the championship on 0

or, they go down, and start in league one on zero

the only way they start next season on -12 is if they end up 12 or more points from staying up (unlikely as they are 8 clear with 10 teams below them) and go down, so they could in theory start next season in league one on -12, but it's not likely

if it's not that, I don't get it

Points deduction only applies next season if they finish in the bottom 3 (without the -12) this season  - which is very unlikley to happen. They've got a chance of staying up - have to play Hull, Barnsley, QPR and Charlton, all shit win a couple of them and they'll be almost there - might put a bet on them to stay up that way I'll be happy either way.

Just read it again

The only way -12 is applied this year is if they dont finish bottom 3

The -12 is then applied

If that relegates them, down they go and start on zero

So, no way do they start next season in the second tier -12

If they finish bottom three, pre -12, then next season, they start third tier -12

Clear as mud

It reads like a trip to Barnard castle and back

Anti clockwise?

I just hope Wigan fans are more confused so that on the last day of the season, they spend a few minutes after full time thinking they've stayed up, before realising they've gone down

I'd pay money to see that

Not like the EFL to lack clarity.

Yep, me too.

I read it as

If they finish in the relgation zone, the deduction applies NEXT season

If they finish outside the relegation zone, the deduction happens THIS season.

I think they'll stay up but the next few years will be like ours.

The cunts.

Think you are correct.

Wigan's best, maybe only hope is Dave Whelan rescueing them.It might not be the same Dave Whelan though, he seems to have gone mad talking about chingalings and jews loving money and the like

They need as many points as they can get but are the players going to paid now they're in admin? if they don't get paid then they aren't going to be pulling their tripe out. More likely scenario they are looking for their next contract elsewhere.

Way i read it, if they get relegated, its next season

If they stay up but -12 would relegate them, its this season

If they stay up and -12 wouldnt relegate them, its next season

If they end up in the bottom three and are relegated it applies next season

If they don't end up in the bottom three they apply it this season and if they then end up in the bottom three they go down. But no deduction next season

Seems pretty clear to me. There are three options:

1. They finish in the relegation zone at the end of the season. They will be relegated and start on -12 in league 1 next season.

2. They finish outside the relegation zone at the end of the season. 12 points are then deducted and that deduction drops them into the relegation zone. They are in league 1 next season, starting on 0 points.

3. They finish outside the relegation zone at the the end of the season. 12 points are then deducted and after that deduction they are still outside the relegation zone (because they finished 12+ points above the relegation zone). They are in the championship next season, starting on 0 points.

In all three cases, the transfer embargo would apply next season.

No. 1 wont happen. They are too far ahead of the relegation zone. It's between No.2 and No.3. We've seen what the transfer embargo will do, even in league 1. Worst case scenario (for Wigan haters), if someone with cash comes in and can afford to keep the current squad, they could be playing next season in the Championship with the same squad as now (less any whose contracts are up)...?

Whelan has already said he's prepared to step in.  If his broken leg allows, obviously

He said he won’t as he’s too old.

this happened to birmingham a year or two ago, they took the nine points before the march cut off deadline.. gary monk were their manager. that were for overspending , tho.. coz of harry redknapp .. iirc

they were about 12th and went down about 4 places.

is it a punishment if nowt happens ?

knowing whats happening halfway through the season definitely helps when deciding what to do.

we were fucked from the start.

Wigan will stay up even with 12 point deduction, but it’s only matter of time, death by thousand cuts.

The bastards better not continue their good form and finish 13+ points clear of relegation. That would be annoying.

I can see them winning 5 more games - Charlton, Hull, Barnsley, QPR and Fulham (saving themselves for play offs),  I still think they'll stop up, they are as good as any championship team on form since Jan.

Don't care what they do this season, next season they are fu**ed

Dunno, if i found out i might not be getting paid for my work, think it would affect my performance.

Some that are out of contract from today (no idea if there are any) might refuse to play given that the club probably cant keep them for next season anyway.
