That was part of the issue wasn't it?

Both were supposed to be going (I thought Blackburn) but liverpool grabbed mcateer and the deal was off. Stubbs spat out his dummy.

One of the most confident ball-playing central defenders to play in a Bolton shirt. Then fucked it up by pretty much saying he was better than being a Bolton player.

When thinking about Stubbs career at Bolton I can remember him scoring a great free kick at Deepdale that went in off the bar and the free kick against Villa.  Never rated him that highly and the rest of his Bolton career was just as bland as he appears. 

Mcateer was just as bad, he was pestering Roy Evans to sign him when we played Liverpool in the Cup final

Stubbs was a good player for Bolton and came through our own ranks. He was a good performer for us in 95/6 after that naive and silly comment on Match of the Day. He got his head down and worked hard.  

As such its a bit pointless holding a grudge 24 years on. In the grand scheme of things he was a good un for us in our first really good period after the misery of the 80s. 

Nothing much against him. But if you wanted me to list greats of the past two and a half decades there'd be a good few names before we reached his.
