Dogs and the vets

Dog started with a slight limp (back leg) Saturday morning. No obvious injuries or anything stuck between toes. Gradually got worse so I've booked him into the vets. Earliest I can get is Wednesday. He's only 1, so it's not old age.

Given his paws a salt bath and trying to make him rest. Anyone got any advise to try and help the poor lad?

I can cope with poorly humans but not with poorly animals 😢

Reckon if a dog had a what'sapp it'd share human porn to his mates?

or I wonder if they have their own version of "Furries" where they dress up as humans for sexual gratification

This may contain: a dog with a hat on his head wearing a blue and white striped dress shirt

5 years ago today at 5pm had to have Barney my lab put down at 12 years old,  said goodbye to him in a car park at Pet Medics in Worsley due to Covid, they took him off me & walked him in and I couldn’t be there, still makes me sad.

Now that's bloody awful 😖

Feel for you Burnden, have a few for the good memories tonight.

My little fucking bastard dog is still here after costing thousands in vet bills (shite insurance cover, my fault and don't I know it) but he's part of our family. He's looking a bit grey and almost scruffy for a Dachshund but at almost 10 he has a good few years still in him by all accounts.

Looks like Christine Hamilton

We're in Wales this weekend with ours. He's 12 on Monday.  Still bags full of energy but his coat has a lot more grey in it these days.  15 tends to be a good age for his breed, he's an English Pointer, I just hope we do get another 3 years with him.  Dogs are ace.

They are, but with a caveat.

Having three males from the same litter, and they're also bastards.

Dogs with a cravat? Now you're talking.

Absolutely do not under any circumstances get a lad. They are little fuckers to anyone or anything that comes near their home. Girls on the other hand are much easier to deal with on that score. Obviously that's not 100% but on the owners groups it is the main complaint, little dog syndrome.

Aye, I've heard that before. Get 2 or 3 of the same breed by all means but not from the same litter.

Didn't think that was "allowed"

Not by law

But ethically, most dog breeders wouldn't let some one have two or more dogs from the same litter because it causes issues

As it seems you found out

Did they warn you?

Our first dog lived to be 17. I was 18 when he died. I’ve had others since but always understood that dogs or cats don’t live forever. (Less than us)
Doesn’t make it any easier though and I understand people not wanting another after the pain of losing a loved pet.

I don't think there is anything "illegal" about it.

Perhaps not ideal though.

Part of the problem isnt just them bashing each other, but the fact that they also act as one at times, and rely on each other too.

Me and Miami - cats are the king of pets!

Nothing illegal at all

Just googled it

Reputable and ethical dog breeders generally do not allow a single person to adopt two or more dogs from the same litter. The practice is widely discouraged by dog trainers and behaviorists due to the serious risks of a behavioral issue known as "littermate syndrome".

What is littermate syndrome?

Littermate syndrome is a cluster of behavioral problems that can occur when two puppies from the same litter are raised together. Instead of bonding with their human family and developing into confident, independent dogs, the siblings often form an unhealthy, hyper-dependent attachment to each other.

It then goes on to give a load more reasons why it's not the done thing in terms of behaviour

Rescued a pair of kittens from Bleakholt many years ago , one is still with us. I dont know how old but into dementia years.

Had cats my whole life but these two were F ....... lunatics , because they did not recognise their human family ,it was a few months before that happened.

They only needed each other and us to provide food .Single puppy or kitten is checking with you constantly for reassurance.

Oh aye, I've heard about it.

There is no doubt that they exhibit this sort of behaviour.

We got them from friends who have bred them for decades.

They're from a working farm, who have/had a number of dogs at one time.

Whether they have actually kept more than one from each litter themselves, I don't know. Possibly not.

We knew the parents of our dogs, their grandmother and so on.

If they were aware of these issues, I'm sure they would have told us.

Sorry to hear that, my 14 year old Staffie suffered a brain haemorrhage early August... got him to the vet within an hour, she was between operations but came out to the car, but we all knew it was terminal and she helped him on his way.

You did right by her.. It does get better.

That's fucking horrific, the poor beast. Wonder what triggered that sort of behaviour

No idea really, but I'd guess it was some sort of infection that made his bollocks itchy as fuck, and his mind was so old and bent he didn't know when to stop chewing at it. Was only a little Yorkshire Terrier. Felt okay when he was being put to sleep, then I sat in the carpark for 5 minutes and cried like a puffter.

Lost our 2 older ones last year. The end stages are proper shit. One saving grace was we absolutely knew it was the right time with both of them. That was one of our biggest worries towards the end - how to know it's not too early or too late.

Left our last cat in the UK with the MIL - too old at 18 to come with us, and happy as Larry there.

Down to our last dog now. Hopefully a good few years left, but our lass is adamant there'll be no more.

... because the end stages are proper shit.
