Put like that it makes IEs professional judgement of the goalkeeping situation even worse than I thought.  The team he takes over doesn't have a satisfactory/senior keeper.  So signing 2 reliable keepers is a priority, whether you're at Man U or Chorley.  And he signs one that's "retired" and one that's completely unproven?  And on the off chance he has a nightmare he wont be subbed.  Its not a good look.
