We spent 4 weeks driving around Russia in 2018 and the general Russian people were great with us, granted we went off the beaten track to the smaller towns where they had probably never seen an Englishman, free Vodka was the order of the day wherever we went. We met their Ultra's who told us they would rather fight us than be nice but Vlad had given them their orders and they had to be nice to us. It was a great experience and I would have loved to go back especially to St Petersburg

I bet the hospitality in those places is second to none - you'll find nice people in every country. 

Their Ultras are twats. They were picking off pensioners, women and kids when they paraded round the Euros before their World Cup. They weren't interested in actually fighting anyone.

Fair enough, I don’t doubt that his wish is for Mother Russia to reclaim ‘lost’ territories, and that he wants a legacy.

Yep, we met them in a bad mood a few years earlier and they stormed our hotel (the Infamous Cosmos) even though it was being guarded by Russian troops,  they got us out of the ground and locked the Russians in just to get us away on buses

Was in St Petersburg around three years ago 

Got talking to some younger ones, probably mid 20s, and they seemed decent. Clued up about life outside of Russia, even remembered us playing them in the Europa

I guess that these are the ones least likely to fall for it all as they are probably savvy enough to read or find international press and not fall for the state controlled media line.

Russian troops have summarily executed hundreds of Ukrainian civilians, and indiscrimately murdered thousands more. It will catch up with them eventually, whether it was done under orders or not.

See, if they were surrendering then yes it would be legally wrong, if morally understandable. 

But they weren't, it was a withdrawal so fair game.
