Mir was a memory that came up on Facebook, I think our place went a couple of days early on telling everyone to stay home.

I retired right at the start of shutdown. Didn't know what was going to happen to the world. I was 65 and had got my state pension. I'd only been home a few weeks and work asked me to go back for a few weeks (working with people with disabilities). The few weeks turned into a few months and I retired again. A few weeks later again I was asked to go back but in a different centre. This lasted until Christmas 2023 when I retired for the final time at 69 and a half. In that ime I had cleared my debts off and got money in the bank and been on holidays.

 

To be honest if we were having a worldwide pandemic it couldn't have come at a better time for me. I'm sorry for everyone who lost someone they knew and I'm not making light ot it by any means.

Yeah, 23rd was the last day before lockdown, also my wedding anniversary.

Isn’t GERMANY in permanent lock down.  I’d imagine it’s the one place where little changed?

AA bloke came round to sort my car. I was never anywhere near him, apart from when he was fucking around under my bonnet while I was sat in the car with a windscreen in between us.

A couple of days later I get a message saying I've got to stay inside for 2 weeks.

He’s clearly never had to stare at the same egg yolk stain for 2 weeks because the shelves had been emptied of washing powder

Was that “eat out to help out “ or something? A bit difficult in GERMANY I imagine. That was a disaster too.

April 13th 2020 I went into hospital with Covid. Suffer from Long Covid now and can’t walk from Harvester to the ground. It’s shit but I am one of the lucky ones. A woman who went in hospital at the same time, died. She was about 30 🙁

thing for me was

I went solo work wise in 2017 and had a kid in 2018

come early 2020 work was going great, kid coming along nicely, joined gym, got a pt, drinking less and had quit the weed when I got those extra responsibilties

remember going out with the other half in Feb 2020 and saying all going great this, going solo best thing I ever did, feel like nothing can stop me

next thing you know saw my clients cut in half, exercising less and watching disney plus all day with the little one who had no idea what was going on, and I'm drinking and getting stoned all evening every evening

it was fun for a while but I wouldn't want to do it again now

I apparently have a form of long covid, I'm generally fairly fit and healthy, but any slight cough or cold and I'm absolutely fucked and wheezing like Nick Ferrari running a half marathon. Sadly, I've picked up some sort of infection whilst I was away last week, and I'm coughing like a 40 a day man at the minute

Mate of mine was working in Holland when it happened and he got Covid during the first wave.

It has completely fucked him. Memory is shot to pieces, struggles to exercise well and needed oxygen in the Dutch hospital.

Had done an Ironman in 2019. Shit to see him struggling

As @Casinosays above, it is/was an incredibly weird virus - no sort of rhyme nor reason to who it attacked, or what it did to them. Hopefully, we won't see anything like it again in our lifetimes......but I do believe it will be something similar that will eventually see us all off

i remember seeing features on the news about how it had gone down in china and it was like a postapocalyptic scene that made me thought it was going be to a serious world ending type virus 

but then over here the weather was lovely and everyone sort of made the best of it, and plenty didn't give a fuck and cracked on it because it didn't seem that bad

but then you hear about things like hospitals being overstreched, seeing stories about care homes and their residents being left to die, and mass graves in some cities/countries

there was defintely two sides to it

you either experienced head on, or it was an incovenience to your regular life

Queuing up outside shops . Good job the weather was good . 
people on the doors of the shops counting people in and cleaning trolley handles before using 
remember B&q when it re opened , was like queuing up for a gig or Alton towers , roped zig zags across the car park with 2 m lines painted . Everyone in masks . 
bike rides all over but still 
put on about 10 stone due to daily diet of 12 pack of beers and bags of giant wotsits while doing  quizzes. 
fucking on line school, Jesus, fucking nightmare , 2 of mine determined to do it and couldn’t get enough teaching and missed out, one thought he’d hit the jackpot , spent more time doing kick ups with toilet rolls and did absolutely the bare minimum and sometimes not even that so also missed out but both for different reasons . 
my uncle contracted it and died , in the early days , no one allowed in to see him. It was shit. 
read somewhere that, at its height, all the virus all over the world , if somehow could be extracted and gathered together , would have fit into half a coke can , amazing such a small quantity of stuff caused so much mayhem .
