Xmas Dinner

What we having?

Sister in law (modest handful) and her fella split, in-laws in France, so it's just the five of us at home. If I'm honest, I can't really be arsed; it's an early Sunday dinner, and will have all the fannying around without the extra gifts and booze.

Anyway, kids want turkey. They didn't have mash last year, and tbf I didn't miss it; however they insist. The wife usually asks for gammon, and that's my usual contribution to a family meal. I'm looking forward to making gravy, semifredo etc in advance. Go forth good folk of WWays; inspire me with your festive fayre

We had yank visitors over summer.

the young lad loves fish and chips.

and has a round of white bread with it.

But

1. Puts the fish on the bread

2. Has brown sauce with it

One assumes you won't be inviting them back.

Yes but if we have leftovers from Christmas Eve…………

Yep - boxing day and then for breakfast for a week afterwards with fried eggs.

One year the other half put some much clover in it I thought I was going to have an extraction.

No issue with 1. Was probably the high point of the game last night. I only have brown sauce on bacon or Scottish stuff that kills you.

Must add on the fish barm angle that the chippy opposite Elland Road specially orders in their bread products so that you can fit a full battered fish on it. Genius.

Peas, chips and fish with brown sauce and a cup of tea. No other way to eat them.

I've just skipped 11 pages to say

Mushy Peas

WTF

As for Sprouts, don't just serve them boiled

I never used to bother with them till we changed how we did them

Once cooked roughly mash them and serve them with smoked bacon lardons, loads of butter and salt and pepper, you can even crumble a bit of Stilton in. So good.

Pigs in blankets, goose fat spuds, decent stuffing and a proper gravy all essential

Can't be bothered with mash or Yorkshire with it

Unfortunately bigtoe you need to go back and read the 11 pages.

Mushy peas is just the tip of the iceberg

A fish barm is tremendous. Used to get one from Jim's chippy in Darcy Lever at lunch time, when a full job would be a bit much before going back to work.

May have even converted my gaffer.

Oh and brown sauce and piccalilli are gash- the latter is vom and vinegar.

Gravy or curry on the chips and the fish

Now here’s a chap that knows how it’s done.

As an aside, I rang the police earlier just to check if a crime has been committed. They said that technically one hadn’t, but they were absolutely appalled just the same.

Mushy peas is just the tip of the iceberg lettuce.

Another one?

If someone served mush peas to me at a Christmas dinner they'd end up wearing them

It's really made me angry that

Anybody going to admit to a slice or two of black pudding with their festive meal?

Slice of pineapple?

Sorry I wasn't clear.

It's is brown sauce with peas chips and fish. Fish chips and curry sauce needs no condiment but a glass of water and peas chips and gravy (no fish) with a can of coke.

The Mrs once served up chill served up in a romaine lettuce leaf instead of a wrap

Think I’ll give this a miss. Struth.

I could go with that actually. Like a crisp salad with spicy stuff, especially with raw onion too.

This is the precise planning of a serial killer. I’m liking this in parts but your concoctions are off.

It wasn't too bad.

Can't remember if it was a slimming world or gousto concoction.

Messy as fuck though as you can't wrap it properly so end up just shovelling chilli and a bit of lettuce into your gob

Bread sauce is a weird one. Can’t make my mind up on it

Love it. Has to be made with a stale loaf and half an onion in the middle of it. Fuck the packet shit.

At the end of the day it’s scutter food designed to fill folk up from back in the day when meat was scarce. Bread sauce, stuffing, dumplings, Yorkshire puds. Love the lot
