They remain in the same bracket as some of the other ex non-league non entities knocking about the football league in the modern day. They claim their gates have burgeoned, but we're talking 2,500 to only 9,000 home fans for a side with a recent Prem stretch and an FA Cup win. Even that'll evaporate when the rot sets in. Their ascent was all built on one man's money. They've had a charmed life and it can't go on. When it all crumbles there will be withering scorn from Bolton that will not relent. The natural order will be restored. Here endeth the lesson. Edited January 7, 2023 by paulhanley

About half the people who died in the Burnden disaster had addresses in the Wigan area - but history is something they will never understand. Still a lot of Whites in the Hindley area, but they tend to be older end. Most Wigan youth seem to be Latics/Man U/Liverpool.

Once it transfers in to the name of the owners…

Latics own it. Whelan’s parting gift was to effectively dissolve the previous stadium company and transfer the ownership in to the club’s name, much to the rugby’s chargin as you’d expect. Things have got progressively messy to the extent that, when the rugby moved their training ground to Robin Park Arena next door to the stadium, they built a bar so they get to keep the money rather than Latics getting it from the stadium bars. Ta. Amazing. Whoever your team there can be zero debate about which is the leading sports club in Wigan.
Johnnyrotten
I see they had a very late goal disallowed at Luton and now have a replay for the reward of playing Grimsby in round 4. They will be snapping up tickets for that replay in their dozens.

If they beat Luton then Grimsby will bring big following, could be more Grimsby than Wigan. 🤣

The closer McLean comes to that final, career-ending, leg-breaking tackle. The nearer that trap-door they get.
