They are slow at restarting tests, but today wasn't ever going to see play. Rank, continually.

Thrash em at the oval.

Nice to know I've still got a rent free place to stay whenever I feel like coming back.

This is a belter - apparently those of us who think Bairstow shouldn't be playing would have a different opinion if we know he was playing crap because of his injury. It's fair enough he feels sympathy for himself but why on earth he thinks being injured is justification for getting selected I'll never know.

No more play this test by the looks of it, so good we spent an extra 40 mins yesterday trying to repair his ego.

Slightly surprised that I haven't seen more pick up on this. If he's been playing shit because he's injured, surely that's even more of a reason why he shouldn't have been wicket-keeping at the very least.

As good and as exciting as England can be these days, they're also totally up their own arses. I'm sure they think Bairstow's good performance in this test cancels out the three previous bad ones.

Be interesting to see whether they have the bottle to drop Jimmy for his last Ashes test.

Still need the win to draw the series.

Tongue would be back in for me, get some more pace in- there isn't significant amount of swing being achieved by the bowlers, so an alternative required.

The Bairstow issue was discussed on TMS yesterday, with a general agreement that he was wrong with his comments.

If his injury was still hampering his performance then he shouldn't be keeping.

I don’t think he was wrong, he just shouldn’t have been selected, which isn’t his responsibility.

He was wrong to have a pop at those who were criticising him, using the injury as a defence for his poor keeping.

You're right in that he doesn't pick himself, but I don't think the injury is responsible or he wouldn't have passed the fitness requirements.

I'm sure he gives of his best, and that's not in question, but he has to have a thicker skin when people comment on the obvious.

Play him as a batsman, no complaints there, but like many, I think the keeper situation was an error, and I think its also wrong that he seems to have been thrust out there to fight his own corner, when the decisions are made further up.

Agree

Obviously the weather intervened on this last match, which is a shame, but they knew the weather was going to be shit - is there a reason, and a decent one, why they couldn't have started the previous days a bit earlier, or played on a bit later?

The whole 11:00 start always puzzles me, as surely it wouldn't be a massive issue to start an hour or two earlier it the summer would it?

Losing to the aussies has ruined the summer, we just always find a way to lose to the convicts, that first test declaration in retrospect has cost us the Ashes. Gutted.

It genuinely didn’t rain from about 10 until half 12. Just get out and play instead of all the faffing about. Same applies to waiting until 11 to start as per @Sweep

Glad they don’t reserve a sixth day, mind, because I’m bloody knackered 😂

We haven't lost yet.

We have lost... they have retained the Ashes.

Nope, but the Aussies have retained the ashes, everything else is irrelevant.

on bairstow

as a cricketer, its obvious why they want to play him, not least hes one of our best batsmen and hes a reasonable keeper

as a person, i fund him pretty unlikeable but im not sure how damaged he is having been through such a tragedy

he seems to blame others for his dads death when really, i think he should look closer to home

There was a comment on commentary (think it may have been Mark Butcher) to the effect of 'we all know Jonny and how important personal milestones are to him' - which didn't exactly paint a great picture from those who've interacted him.

Not sure that suggests a poor picture.

I've just seen/read of previous interviews/comments and he's seemed defensive/aggressive etc. Don't know enough of his personal situation though, and losing his dad, whatever the circumstances, must have an effect.

YMMV but the tone seemed clear to me.

Come on Jonny, another opportunity to prove the doubters wrong.

Glad they’ve gone with an unchanged side.

I suspect bowling first again if we win the toss.

They've already been proved right wrt his wicketkeeping

Anyway, come on England

Hmm, not sure long established cricket writers can be described as doubters. Put simply, his wicket keeping isn't up to required standard for top level international cricket and these writers have said so.

Maybe, but he’s there to prove them wrong. And I hope he does, it would only be a good thing for England if he does.

After the last test where we dominated and everyone performed, it was only right IMO that the same boys got the chance again

He's can't un drop the catches that already cost the Ashes unfortunately, so unless he has a time machine proving his doubters wrong is an impossible task.

I think it’s more than that. Other individuals also didn’t perform in first 2 tests. It’s a team game, win together, lose together. He won’t get that blame from within the dressing room and rightly so.

But you carry on slagging him off. He’s a pretty complex individual who (wrongly in my opinion) listens to a bit too much external noise and enjoys giving it back to the haters.

If it’s a passionate Englishmen out their doing his best Vs @maaarsh and his merry team of trollers, then we can only hope there’s one winner 😊
