We could see England v Australia in the world test final in 2025. If they are still doing it then.

They are.

This is the first series in the new cycle 2023-2025. Final is at Lord's....

Harsh to call it a fuck up IMO.

The finest of fine margins.  We're talking 1/100ths of a second on that one.

Had he 'waited' for the ball to go into his gloves before pushing them towards the stumps then Smith may well have been even further 'in'.

I think the dislodging of the bail by Bairstow is a bit of a red herring

The bail hadn't left both grooves until Smith had got beyond the line

Let's not let that get in the way of a bit of Bairstow bashing.

If Foulkes had been behind the stumps Smith would've only been halfway down the track.

Whether or not he hit the off stump without the ball in his gloves is irrelevant.  They judged it on when the middle stump dislodged, which is when he had the ball in his gloves ... and it was deemed that he was in.

Bear in mind this is all happening in a fraction of a second.  It's not as if he's fumbled the ball.

You could even argue him pushing his hands forward too quickly increased the chances of getting him out as his momentum was greater/quicker than had he waited that fraction of a second for the ball to land in his gloves.

Bairstow really wasn't to blame.

This thread is the equivalent of the "Football" one on Mumsnet :D

Fortunately on here we have few experts to guide us 😘😂

So on the replay from the side the middle stump was clearly moved so why was it not out ? I do not see how the wicket is not broken if the stump is moved ?

... and as I type, a very good catch from Bairstow :D

Was it one he should have taken, irrespective of whether it was a tough one?

Doing what he should for the most part doesn't make up for his flaws.

The difference between being a reasonable keeper and a top international one.

Haha, I'm certainly no expert.  I don't think we have any :D

My take was you can see middle stump moving whilst Smith is the wrong side of the line and the ball is in his gloves.

... but it happens so quickly that one from tells a different story to the next one.  I can see why they didn't give it, but I don't think anybody would've argued if it had been given.

One thing is for certain, it wasn't a fuck up from Bairstow ... unless, of course, you were listening to it on the radio :D

Don't the commentators views and opinions count then?

They have every angle that you have, and maybe more

Of course they count, but you're on here giving an opinion based on somebody else's opinion.  You also say the umpire clearly didn't think it was out.  Given how long it took to get to the final decision then I'd not say there was anything 'clearly' about it.

... and I doubt they have access to more views than we, the viewer, get.
