Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 28, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted July 28, 2023 I've got a suspicion Stokes won't be around for the next Ashes series here. Reckon his body will fail him, but can't see him bowling much ever again for England. Well don't to Broad too- pitched it up and didn't instantly resort to the short ball to Head. globaldiver
We could see England v Australia in the world test final in 2025. If they are still doing it then.

Members DazBob
Harsh to call it a fuck up IMO. The finest of fine margins. We're talking 1/100ths of a second on that one. Had he 'waited' for the ball to go into his gloves before pushing them towards the stumps then Smith may well have been even further 'in'. Members Lt. Aldo Raine
I think the dislodging of the bail by Bairstow is a bit of a red herring The bail hadn't left both grooves until Smith had got beyond the line

If Foulkes had been behind the stumps Smith would've only been halfway down the track.

Members DazBob
Whether or not he hit the off stump without the ball in his gloves is irrelevant. They judged it on when the middle stump dislodged, which is when he had the ball in his gloves ... and it was deemed that he was in. Bear in mind this is all happening in a fraction of a second. It's not as if he's fumbled the ball. You could even argue him pushing his hands forward too quickly increased the chances of getting him out as his momentum was greater/quicker than had he waited that fraction of a second for the ball to land in his gloves. Bairstow really wasn't to blame.

Doing what he should for the most part doesn't make up for his flaws. The difference between being a reasonable keeper and a top international one. I don't think we have any My take was you can see middle stump moving whilst Smith is the wrong side of the line and the ball is in his gloves. ... but it happens so quickly that one from tells a different story to the next one. I can see why they didn't give it, but I don't think anybody would've argued if it had been given. One thing is for certain, it wasn't a fuck up from Bairstow ... unless, of course, you were listening to it on the radio

You also say the umpire clearly didn't think it was out. Given how long it took to get to the final decision then I'd not say there was anything 'clearly' about it. ... and I doubt they have access to more views than we, the viewer, get.
