I think it’s more than that. Other individuals also didn’t perform in first 2 tests. It’s a team game, win together, lose together. He won’t get that blame from within the dressing room and rightly so. But you carry on slagging him off. He’s a pretty complex individual who (wrongly in my opinion) listens to a bit too much external noise and enjoys giving it back to the haters. If it’s a passionate Englishmen out their doing his best Vs @maaarsh and his merry team of trollers, then we can only hope there’s one winner 😊 Quote

Sadly yes. He's not the only one to make mistakes in fairness; some odd batting, dropped catches elsewhere, and a potentially off declaration all of which have contributed, but there is a weakness to the specific role he's given, and at his age, it's not likely to suddenly improve. I feel for him in a way, he should just be free to bat as we know he can. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Oh and I wonder if Stark will hoop the new ball under the conditions. Quote
mickbrown Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Just struck me that we're finishing the series in July. Thought it seemed stupidly early so had a quick check. 2005, first test only starting about now. 5th test was in September. Quote

Think they have done it, so that the 100 (wrongly in my opinion) can run as the main spectacle throughout August. Quote

There's no first class cricket being played in August so they can instead accommodate the ECB's vanity project Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 To be fair, all pundits/commentators were saying it was perfect for bowling and that it would be tough. Inevitably going to be wickets, and chances, but overall they've done pretty well. Could be a lot worse. 120+ for 3 at lunch on a bowlers wicket is excellent. Quote
desperado Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 What a fascinating series it’s been. No side has been able to get away from the other (the only team that has looked likely to do that was us at OT) It’s been really entertaining cricket. Yes we’ve riden our luck giving a few chances, but the England of old would have been tentative and ponderous losing wickets for few runs. Sticking to their guns with this aggressive approach, means at least the scoreboard looks healthy with 3 wickets down. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Big if, but 300 wouldn't be bad first innings. Pitch will get better for batting so Aussies may well get more, but they will have to bat last, and it might be turning by then. Quote

Kind of, but they bat normally, rather than suicidally, for 2 days, then it’s over. Quote

Of course they could bat long, but it's down to the bowlers to extract what there is. I think one or two of ours tried to go too early, but I don't think hanging around for very few would have made too much difference early doors- bound to be a delivery with their name on it. Quote

Even by proper cricket standards, that was unduly dull. Got to say, I think Anderson has lost his mojo, sadly. Over recent years, although he has still taken wickets, there had been a suggestion on commentary, that he bowls a tad too short. They've said the same this morning on tms, and I wonder why, on an overcast morning, he isn't doing what he made his name doing- pitching it up a bit and giving it chance to swing. Bowling "well" as they've described it, but isn't quite as threatening as he used to be. Shame, but maybe now is the time to look elsewhere ready for the next Ashes etc. Quote

He was swinging it just before lunch. Quote

Many of the batsmen are young enough and might be at their peak then, but the bowling will need an almost complete overhaul. Let’s hope the key man, Stokes, is up for it. Quote
