The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

Where are people stashing cash to stop it depreciating so hard? Premium Bonds?

Heard him summarise his latest Principles book on an FT podcast recently. The first one has been on my reading list for a while.

Can't knock his record in the markets.

We're fucked either way.

The dollar until it pops. Everything tanks against it until it goes.

If I had any real amount of actual cash to stash and not just a fucking pension I can't touch for 40 years and some crypto I'd be chucking it into gold and silver.

We'll all be Sri Lanka soon enough

Worthy of anyone's time some of his "principles" videos. I'm working through the audio book but probably need to read it for it to stick.

This video in particular is definitely what we are going through now.

Early stages of it granted but you can't print currencies into oblivion so labourers can build pallet bars in their garden and do nowt for 3 months (and send billions upon billions of money to useless PPE companies and the like) and not expect the bubble to burst.

This is why I want a labour government next time. So that the whole ppe and procurement of covid is actually exposed. The current lot will only kick the can down the road.

It is an absolute scandal how much was wasted and given to Tory pals with no supply chains.

As someone who deals with procurement int day job (sourcing tinfoil...) the bending of OJEU procurement practises across the continent from day 1 under "emergency rules" never sat right with me.

Cunts. The lot of em.

Garage in Wogden now has the cheapest fuel prices in the country, add to that no grooming Gangs and no Domed buildings no wonder house prices are going through the roof.

Noticed some boozers are pretty busy today, it’s like there’s free money being handed out.

Have the peasants all been given another handout?

When do we get one?

One of our more distant relatives is a perma-scrounger.

Tapped my missus to lend her some money a bit back, said "I get paid tomorrow"

I mistakenly asked if she'd found a job and she looked at me like I'd just shit in her face and said "'Av ah fuck, it's when ah get me dole"

Payday. They call it payday. "Am gerrin' a new tattoo" was another of her declarations. It'll probably have the name of one of her kids on, so at least she can remember its name.

Does she live in Horwich too?

School run in the morning will consist of Chardonnay and Porsches mum showing off her new lips and dads boasting about the 3 for 100 they got. Kids will still be starving

Good enough for most of us, but I'm sure a few on here will pull it apart.

Is that what you meant? 😉

Gonna make a fortune with my used knickers over the next few days.

A Europe wide agreement, who'd of thunk it?

And one they've not achieved, despite the likes of Germany being more at risk than most.

They'll just keep buying Putin gas.

Germany opening up previously mothballed coal fired power stations. It’s obvious why but it won’t go down well with environmentalists. Net zero by 2050? Forget it. Putins legacy.

The cost of heating water and the increasing cost of toiletries got me thinking back to the 70s when folk really did used to only have one bath a week.

Did everybody smell but it didn't matter because we were all in the same boat ?

Imagine the reduction in plastic, energy, and water use if we all went back to one bath or shower a week.

Folk did wash everyday though, soap, water, under the pits, back of the neck... just not a full shower/bath using an array of smellies.

Mate of mine put his mum’s house up for sale when she died. Estate agent said value £235k but there are four interested parties who are slowly bumping it beyond a quarter of a million.

Edit for info: this is Tottington Road, Harwood.

It’s been a while… I bought mine for 185k just over two and a half years ago in Wogden. Spent 25k on it. Had it valued a few months back at 270k and got an offer of 300k (straight off the bat). I’m hoping to take the money and run. Have a house lined up in Greenmount but tempted to rent for a bit and see what happens!
