The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

So this mega billion rescue package.

Paid to the proletariat or direct to the energy suppliers?

My guess...

Capped at current rates for 2 winters.

Billions Paid to the energy providers.

Lauded as government funded

A real vote winner for Truss. Isn't she great, she's Capped energy bills for 2 winters (at a rate already double what it was last year)

Paid for by us plebs

Gazpacho.

It's all part of the Tories levelling up agenda.

That care home sounds like the ESLSC...

I like Gazpacho. I like how I can choose what and how much I add. Mmmm

I’d say the loopholes. But, rightly or wrongly it’s all legal.

I'm guessing the illegal evasion also costs the country more.

Election in summer 23 if that's the case

The energy companies will get the cash.

But I’m going to add a note of cautious optimism in to this.

Truss could really double down and insist that a certain amount of profits made are invested into the British renewables market. Apprenticeships, manufacturing, installer training etc.

If she doesn’t, she misses a trick. But I’m told it is being pushed from various areas to become policy as part of the “rescue” package.

From a personal point of view, that would be a vote winner.

We bought our new build house in 2013 so just under 10 years ago.

We actually have covenants on our estate preventing us from installing solar panels. The fibre broadband was terminated at the end of the estate and then copper to each house. Stupid things that shouldn't happen these days, more money to install fibre that should have happened in the first place and loads of houses unable to modernise.

Anyway, let's see what happens in the next few weeks, can it be really worse than Bunter and then zombie gov for the summer? 😬

Hang fire

Theyve installed Ismabard Kingdom Mogg as the energy minister.

To be fair, a faoe few of these appointments are dogshit ones who were already in the cabinet under BJ but just reshuffled.

She's just doing what BJ did, clear out anyone who opposed her and fill in with yes wo/men.

That's a load of shite and doomed to failure. You need a cabinet of ideas and opposing thoughts where individuals can openly argue different perspectives and priorities.

Anyway.

Hopefully she hits the ground running because we really need it.

Planning Permission...

this price freeze

when does it kick in?

have just agreed to a fix that saw my bill double, it shouldn't be an issue as we can leave the fixed period at any time, if the freeze applies to prices now

but some people may not realise and end up being in a fixed rate that's higher than it should be, or not, dunno

We've not fixed, was going to be 400 odd a month and this month we've used 90 quid.

Instead we've gone on a variable DD, we've saved extra to cover us for Jan-Mar and it was clear the gvt had to do something.

Looking back on last year's bills we used very little until the new year, just wasn't cold enough, just two hours of heating at night.

So rather be prudent with usage, save where we can for winter rather than a flat fee we're just not using. We've not had the heating on since end of April FFS!

How dare you! I have a couple of very nice M&S PJ sets.

My tour t-shits are to be worn loud and proud on a weekend when going round B&Q.
