The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

I’ve gone very tight with the electric since I had the phase 2 smart meters put in, can’t help but look at the little screen in the front room when the washer is on to see the difference in cost from doing whites and coloureds (sickening I know).

I noticed as the whites have a higher temperature and my washer only has cold water inlet so decided to see if I can wash them on a 40’c wash, cutting the time down by 104mins and obviously the extra elec needed to heat the washer water up to 60’c   I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube where they soak all the whites in a bucket with a mixture of bleach, detergent and Borax.  Not got any Borax, whatever that is, but I’m trying it today, fingers crossed the end results are the same in cleanliness, but lower elec consumption.   I’m not joking, the 60’c wash uses loads of elec, I was gobsmacked, it was clocking over for fun.   Am I tight fisted, or are we all doing stuff like this to economise?

My gas n electric are £55 a month combined, but I want to save as much as possible for the winter months, seems sensible to me, and not just that I can use the bucket of bleach, detergent and water to mop the kitchen and bathroom floors to save on my water meter.   Smiley, you have competition 😂

CASH for GASH

CASH for GASH

A pal used to supply Fiesta... the going rate for the model was £150 for a couple of hours including flashing the gash. In that time he'd shoot 3 sets of pictures (6 rolls of 35mm per set) and sell each to the editor for £400 each, extra if he got a cover. He retained copyright and could then resell them overseas.

We've always washed everything on the 30 degrees, super quick programme.

Everything done and dusted in 30 mins.

And when the say 'we' I mean 'she'.

Washing is definitely a pink job.

It’s a bit of a bugger in this weather and sometimes having to wear white shirts, I can make my 4 whites last a month before they look like someone’s wiped their arse on the necks, 30’c ain’t gonna get that out I shouldn’t imagine.

Aye, 30 or 40 here. Even on a whites wash that has a preset 60⁰C temp, I turn it down to 40. It's fine.

I don't wear white very often, but grass juice, viscerated slugs, dirt etc all comes out no problem at lower temperatures from my keks and t shirts.

Ha!

I don't wear white shirts but it worked on school uniform shirts for years.

Give it a whirl, got to be better than pissing about with buckets of bleach

I fondly remember my days behind a strimmer, as chopped up slugs, frogs and dog shit hit the helmet visor.

Fucking hell, my Gas/Electricity DD has gone from £195 a month to £404!

I've tried having a conversation with somebody at Shell Energy, as my fixed deal ends in August - currently I'm paying £100 per month DD (even though they tried to push me down to about £70 per month because I'm in credit), all they can tell me is that in September I'll be moved onto their "fully flexible" tariff and my monthly payment will go up to £172 for September, and then they "believe" but can't confirm yet, that in October it'll go up to £240.80 (which seems very precise) per month there after 😲

I used to pay 100 quid a month before my provider went bust. From next month it will have quadrupled. That is a bastard.

My direct debt was £119 under my fixed price contract, which came to an end on 31 May. No idea how much they are going to take out of my account now - will find out in the next few days.

Edit: just logged in online. They suggest that I update my DD to £220 per month, although they haven’t (yet) changed it from £119.

I’m paying them 14 shillings and 6d per month.

I am not sure I have a spare 200 quid a month.  I know I have to find it so will have to trim things but our weekly big shop has gone up 40 quid a week since the start of the year.

I will manage I am sure but I earn a decent wage, fuck knows how folk on 10 quid an hour will heat their homes this winter.

I was surprised to see though, that I am in credit by a fair whack for gas but battered by electricity prices. Yet my last plan was supposed to be 100% renewable electricity. What a load of shite!
