The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

Read up on hypermiling techniques.

Easy on the brakes, try to look further ahead so you can ease off the gas and coast up to lights etc.

I don't need to, the car is constantly fucking telling me what I should and shouldn't be doing, especially when approaching junctions and roundabouts - it's all on a HUD as well, so it's right in front of my face  🙂   (I could turn it off, but I actually quite like it)

I'm way too heavy footed as I've been told 🙄

So pay for a one hour driving lesson and ask the instructor to teach you to drive economically.

Nah. I won't listen.

Done many a compulsory driving course over the years funded by the companies that I worked for, aimed at company car drivers. Drive safer and more economically. Funding them reduced the companies' insurance premiums

Was taught the "lift and coast" method that F1 drivers use now when they are short on fuel. Never took a blind bit of notice until the last couple of years. Definitely works

We were sent on one when at the council. Apparently I was quite "gentle" anyway, but certainly took on board the advice.

Some reports now that cars "manage" themselves and that some of the techniques aren't required.

The best bit of advice for me, is to drive by looking further ahead than what folk tend to do. Anticipate lights changing, give yourself time to see whether anything is coming as you approach roundabouts etc- reduces braking and gear changing and improves fuel economy and brake life.

news from the oil and gas world

News of OPEC+ members underperforming their production targets is far from surprising, yet this week’s oil trading has been palpably impacted by the prospect of undersupply. Whilst Chinese demand is suffering once again from COVID lockdowns, continued supply disruption in Libya and OPEC revising its growth outlook downwards have more than offset bearish sentiment. With several banks and rating agencies hiking their crude price outlook for 2022, the new norm for ICE Brent appears to be around the $125 per barrel mark.

Always expect a 10p surcharge at the services.
Picked my child up from Padiham earlier and the Texaco there was 194.9 U/L & 199.9 Diesel

Tesco Middlebrook - Unleaded was £1.80summat t'other day. I think diesel was £1.90ish

and just to help out OPEC production was down in MAY by 176,000 bpd from April.

They had an ice cream man on earlier saying it is the death of the industry as they need to keep engines running all day to keep the Mr. Whippy going. Now I am not all about Winners and Losers but I do think we have reached the day where firing up hydrocarbons and pumping out shit from your exhaust all day for the sake of an ice cream has come to an end.

And it's Thatcher's fault as well.

Mr Whippy is shite anyway. Good riddance.

One mon brings it round this way; kinell my wheely bin is cleaner after two weeks. Probably Bon Monks into it too.

I do like your updates from different towns.

During the fuel crisis last year, I heard they had some at Rivington services.  Filled up for £1.66 a litre diesel.  I remember thinking it was bloody steep but worth it as I was running on fumes.

Less than 9 months later & I've paid £1.92 today.   £77 and the fecker never even clicked once.

I paid 1.99 for unleaded at Peterborough services earlier 🤦

So. I've just been offered £100 for pics of my feet on twitter. £500 for feet and 🍉🍉
