I know it's a trek, but what about the back roads: trough of Bowland etc down past Clitheroe area?

Done it once or twice, but it might at least keep moving.

I did that a few weeks back after a crash on M6 and it wasn't good. Those roads are narrow and were too busy. It took bloody ages and the motorway was still open then (down to one lane) so Christ knows what they would have been like.

Best to just avoid if possible. I bet those who live anywhere near the A6 between Preston and Carnforth are having a right mare getting about.

Fair enough. Traf can't avoid it if he wants to come down to the game.

Maybe canoe down the effluent coast and disembark at Preston!

We often come home that way if the weather's good via Dunsop Bridge & Clitheroe.

Sounds like it was absolute hell over the weekend.

I drove back on Sunday, was busier than expected but no more so than a usual Sunday afternoon really. Took about 4 1/2 to get to south london.

M25 was clearish, M6 clear as a bell (using the toll) Only time I stopped really was around the Trafford centre.

Personally I'd be more concerned about going to Guildford (which I've got to.do on tuesday) hate the place with a passion.
