Brand Evatt

We had a decent thread a while back discussing Evatt’s philosophies and approach to the game (think it got tainted and pulled)

So not a bad time to start it up again at the beginning of the season.

In the main he’s done a fantastic job. A minority lost patience round about Xmas/New Year in both seasons.

But surely now he has the large backing of the majority of fans and the brand he talked about implementing here is now well and truly established.

Good article above highlighting how he’s using Sport Science to get the squad performing to it’s optimum level.

A young, meticulous, intelligent and passionate individual, who we are very lucky to have leading our club.

I hope he gets what he deserves with promotion to the Championship.

All the analysis and data aside, I just don't get how the board can seriously be sat thinking anything else but that change needs to happen. And if they think that Evatt can be the one to change

A decent visual comparing our results against the top half with our results against the bottom half

Wigan should be easy then

I’m not quite sure how. But last 6 home league games

P - 6

W - 5

D - 1

L - 0

Imagine when it clicks 😂

I'm beginning to think it's better to just check our results and not actually watch them.

Everyone else thinks we are bang in form. Don't conceede many and score plenty.

That's very good.

If that sort of form continues and is reflected post Wigan etc, then my confidence will be restored.

Our overall results are decent too - 26 points in the last 12 games. Keep that going and we end the season on 93 points.

It just hasn't felt anything like that watching us.

I had to triple check it when I saw it.

It certainly doesn’t feel like our home form is that good.

We know there’s problems and we’ve heard lots about negative inconsistencies, trends etc

But you can’t ignore that one. I think it’s even more impressive that we have done that, while pretty much all of us are in agreement that the seasons been poor so far and we aren’t playing well!

here's another

12 home games in all competition this season

for all the talk of needing to start quick, we've scored in the first half twice

keeps happening, we start great, look threatening, don't score, and soon go stale

I can’t keep up with this crazy season, I don’t know what’s true anymore 😂

It doesn’t seem so long ago that we were saying, if we don’t score first, we don’t win, this side can’t come back and win games when we concede first!

It’s going to look fucking brilliant when we score first and play well 😂

Doing that against Wigan will get the fans back on side.

Only the second time we've won when going behind, so still rather play well first half, and get ahead. Then play well second and go further ahead.

I think we both know it won't

Win 5, lose the next and the noise would start again

It would certainly go a long way

Start winning big games and games against local rivals consistently and everyone would be behind him

I don't think our form is good.

But the results are 😀.

Professional football isn't it, no style marks awarded.

But it's been an almighty struggle so far.

We can play better but in lieu of that, I'll take struggling to 16 points from every 18 👍

Let's see what the rest of this month brings and take stock over the last of the Xmas beers after those trips to Mansfield and Exeter. After Bristol R, next three will be the real test, Wigan, Wycombe, Barnsley, the ones beyond that ought, in theory, to be less challenging.

Absolutely. And i think it will be the theme of the season.

Derby lost late last season at Northampton (I think) and Warne got a load of stick off their fans then as they'd given us the initiative.

Every chance Evatt gets us up this season with many fans still not backing him. Would be strange but not inconceivable.

Derby were absolute cack for the whole of last season but just set about winning football matches.

It's the Paul Warne way.
Sometimes you have to take a pragmatic substance over style approach, if you're reading Ian.

Yeh there’s some clear similarities and differences with Derby last year.

One of my best mates is a Derby fan and they spent most of last year thinking they weren’t good enough for promotion. They thought their football style was shit, they were very critical of Warne. They were winning games while playing shit. Even late on in the season, think it was Northampton (which they lost and were shocking) and Reading (they won being second best with a very dodgy penalty) they weren’t fully behind Warne and their promotion credentials, so as @thebells points out, it’s not inconceivable that could happen with us and our fan base

However there’s some important contrasts. As you say @Traf the managers have very different styles, philosophies and approaches. The one thing that I liked about Warne, was how flexible and reactive he was in his in-game management.

Honest question, do you really believe he can take us up this season?

I'm beginning to think Evatt may be becoming a lucky manager with the 2 last minute winners and being handed - needlessly - a one man advantage in the last 2 games. I'll take a lucky manager as long as he's lucky when it really matters.

Brings me onto the Wigan game. I've convinced myself that either

a) it's the game when - against the odds (and contrary evidence) - it all suddenly clicks. We play well and beat them. Despite them being a poor side in the bottom half, our recent record and local pride make it special, and we start a winning run with good performances. For the record, this is not the same as beating relegation fodder whilst playing like a bunch of disinterested strangers which we've been doing recently.

b) the last minute winners and needless red cards has convinced Sharon to give him a bit more time just as she was about to pull the trigger, which turns out to be the only scenario known to man where Wigan come to our place a dick us for the third time in a row.

Hoping for a, dreading it might be b.
