Brand Evatt

We had a decent thread a while back discussing Evatt’s philosophies and approach to the game (think it got tainted and pulled)

So not a bad time to start it up again at the beginning of the season.

In the main he’s done a fantastic job. A minority lost patience round about Xmas/New Year in both seasons.

But surely now he has the large backing of the majority of fans and the brand he talked about implementing here is now well and truly established.

Good article above highlighting how he’s using Sport Science to get the squad performing to it’s optimum level.

A young, meticulous, intelligent and passionate individual, who we are very lucky to have leading our club.

I hope he gets what he deserves with promotion to the Championship.

All the analysis and data aside, I just don't get how the board can seriously be sat thinking anything else but that change needs to happen. And if they think that Evatt can be the one to change

This league is so ridiculously condensed we could carry on this habit of 3-4 flat track bully results then a big game stinker for months and still be in the play off mix, insulating Evatt from us being in the bottom half and miles off the pace, and giving Sharon justification for not doing something she wouldn't appear keen to do.

I think it's admirable that she isn't trigger happy- it must be of great comfort to staff/manager.

So far in his tenure, we've improved each season, so hard for her to reach for the axe.

This season however is going backwards, and despite hoping, and part believing it will come good, there is also a dawning realisation that it wont.

Not sure the board can afford to take that chance.

It's all well and good to say "who else", but until someone else comes and has a go, don't know if it's for the best or not.

It'd certainly be something that appeals to any potential new manager if we're ever in a position where we're looking for one whilst she's here

I’ve always been proud as a club we rarely pull the trigger early. Let’s not pretend though she did Hill as quick as she could (rightly so)

True, although I get the impression she didn't choose Hill as such but did choose Evatt

So perhaps reassuring if any new manager felt they were her first choice

Big call for the owners, do they listen to IE excuses or make the call to get rid.

Up until this point, I think it was reasonable to back Sharon’s judgement, showing faith and support in a manager, when so many other Chairmen are trigger happy and lack loyalty, especially when her latest vote of confidence resulted in a good run of form.

But I think that time has now passed after that today. It confirms there’s a deficit in his management which seems insurmountable.

A decision to change manager over the international window, allows a new manager to get a tune out of this lot before the new year transfer window.

And we are still in touch of promotion.

I worry any longer will be detrimental.

Spot on mate. Said a few weeks ago that I expect this season, with Evatt, will be one where we win a few and gain some hope, then come crashing down to earth with a bad defeat. And we could finish anywhere between 4th and 10th.

Evatt won’t resign, but he’ll fight his corner citing injuries, illness, etc.

As you say, this break now gives an opportunity to start again. We’re still well in the promotion hunt and the job will be very attractive to some good candidates I expect.

Also think Evatt would come back better from this once he’s had a break. He possibly needs saving from himself at this point.

Or do they just understand they own a football club, and sometimes the team play shit and lose a match?

Or five

There's a bit more to consider though than just losing a match

There's pattern here and it keeps happening in these type of games

And unless he can do something about it, it will more than likely be the reason we don't get promoted

As posted elsewhere, I don't think he's going anywhere

He'll either be in charge of us in the championship next season or he'll be gone

But like many others, I'm just bored of it now, all these no shows in the bigger, more important games

"it's happened again" as the Wigan fans like to sing

Absolutely.  However, she also has to judge when it's necessary and, the big task, not letting things run too far.

It seems clear that he's too often recruited similar players and has obdurately resisted seeking certain types of player. That's his choice but in doing so he has to get it right.

I don't have an issue with the players he brings in.

I have an issue with the overall approach and attitude. The lack of pragmatism that keeps coming back, the same selection/preparation faults, the continued injury situation, and the lack of full confidence many of us have in the likelihood of us being promoted.

Bout right that

I don't think that's the point he's making

I know its been said before that we only win when we score first, but the last 6 league defeats - starting with Oxford - have seen the same pattern of being 1 down at H-T (or 2 v Oxford) then offering NO THREAT WHATSOEVER in the 2nd half.   Then being 2 down in every game early in the 2nd half with the exception of Birmingham where the 2nd was quite late.  But not just defeats, literally not making a game of it every single time - not only not scoring, but not even make the keeper work or get the fans on the edge of their seats.

We could have lost all those games 3-2 and still be justified in asking questions, but we would have seen proper games of football, the manner of these defeats is on another level.  We have won some games convincingly but no team has just rolled over and not threatened us at all.

6 defeats in 14 games without scoring a goal or even threatening to.

Fair suggestions. But if we did appoint one of them, next time we get dicked you'll be screaming for them to be sacked too.

No i was onboard first two and half years with Evatt, even when teams like Port Vale hammered us 6-3 in his first year

We needed stability and i could see what Evatt was trying to do. It was only last Oct/Nov when Carlisle and Wigan turned us over at home and i came on here stating we had no plan B.

Since then i have watched him and his one trick pony way of playing knowing it was only a matter of time before things would come to a head.

He is tactically inept and unable to change a team once the ref has blown his whistle to start a game.

It’s a fair point. There’ll always be fans that react like that, some of them on here. Personally, having reflected on yesterday, I have some deeper thoughts, but I’ll probably post them later when I’ve more time.

Serious question. What would you want to happen now? Would you stick with him? No issue if so, but what would be your tipping point?

The Twitter post is spot on. This isn’t knee-jerk stuff. In fact there are managers at virtually any other club who wouldn’t have survived the first half of the League Two season. Or 6-3 v Vale. Or losing to Stockport when they were non-league. Or the Carlisle game. Or a million games v Wigan or Blackpool. Or Oxford at Wembley.

He was very lucky to avoid the chop after the Huddersfield game - the first time where I thought the time was right for him to go - but that always had to be with the caveat that the next vital or heavy defeat would have to be the last one.

He was fortunate that losing to a lower division team in Walsall sneaked under the radar in favour of the bigger picture, but yesterday was the final, unforgivable surrender for me.

If we’d had a go but lost 2-0 on the break then the reaction would have been entirely different, but the second half yesterday was a complete downing of tools and he has to take ultimate responsibility for that.

I'd stick with him till the end of the season. Tipping point would be not getting promoted. That's literally the only avenue he's got to continue our upward trajectory.

Having said that, I'd never scream for him to go or wave an 'Evatt Out' banner. That sort of behaviour just isn't my bag.
