Brand Evatt

We had a decent thread a while back discussing Evatt’s philosophies and approach to the game (think it got tainted and pulled)

So not a bad time to start it up again at the beginning of the season.

In the main he’s done a fantastic job. A minority lost patience round about Xmas/New Year in both seasons.

But surely now he has the large backing of the majority of fans and the brand he talked about implementing here is now well and truly established.

Good article above highlighting how he’s using Sport Science to get the squad performing to it’s optimum level.

A young, meticulous, intelligent and passionate individual, who we are very lucky to have leading our club.

I hope he gets what he deserves with promotion to the Championship.

All the analysis and data aside, I just don't get how the board can seriously be sat thinking anything else but that change needs to happen. And if they think that Evatt can be the one to change

There weren't 3 sides like them in there last season either.

There weren't, so you're right, it's not weaker than last season, under Brum it's going to be competitive all the way. One or two such as Exeter and Mansfield might fall away over time but still 7 or 8 who will stay the course

That was a tough division 2 years ago with those 3 miles better than anyone.

Last season was generally very weak and our chance to go up. Even Pompey weren't great, just well drilled.

The league this season only has 1 standout team but a lot of teams of decent enough quality, and that's our issue. We're poor against those top teams and there's a lot more of them than usual because all 3 relegated to div 3 season before last had issues that means they're all still here, and a couple of promoted teams have money.

Right manager though and I still think 2nd is doable with this squad, as it will be a low points total needed. Needs an overhaul of mentality though to get something from those big games.

It was in "... and there’s lots more". 😀

Every possible argument is in that quote. 😉

However, Arfield starting the game, given the abject performances we’ve already seen from him, was a screaming headline in that team formation and selection.

Tick tock.

Nothing has changed we won today and deserved  it.

Still playing that crazy system with players out of position..........We have a top,top div 1 squad and that is what is carrying us through

Still alternating forwards so no everything is not right, but tonight just like GMT Evatt clock has gone back slightly

At what point did he become not right for us, and given the recent run could continue, will he ever be right for us again, in your opinion.

For me he wasn’t right for us losing that first set of Barnsley play off games. Plays the Russell Martin Philosophy and in reality if we’d of bitten the bullet then, we’d be so far better off.

If anyone believes we will take us up then happy days.

I didn’t want to detract from today as It’s the best match in a long time but you asked the question and I thought a response was fair.

I wonder how the goal gets taken into account, is it xG for the penalty (high) + for Dion’s chance (even higher) + for the goal (basically 1)?

Aye me too. Not a clue what that means

All that matters is that we are top.

Likes his XG boss man doesn’t he 😂

“From my perspective, being the manager, it is more important how we went about that.

“I looked at the xG and to have 4.2 to 0.2 - against a dangerous attacking team - is something very positive. I thought the performance, in general, was very positive and a lot more like us.”

Does it meant that the way we played, we should have scored 4, but didn't?

Suggests we played well, but couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

Still not got a clue what this means or how it's worked out.   Probably for the best I guess.

It means fuck all in the grand scheme of things to getting 3 points . you might have more chances to score but your striker might not be able to hit a barn door or you might have a shit defence thats leaking goals at the back

Yes I think the message is if you have a high XG and don't score many, you've got a great midfield and crap forwards.  And if you have a low XG you've got a midfield that can't create so the forwards are a bit irrelevant anyway.  Not that I'd try to understand all that nonsense.

I think so. Although, as said above, I wonder what the xG was at 96 mins… If it was 1.2 at 96 does that mean we didn’t create a huge amount? 🤷‍♂️

essentially yes, it means the quality of the chances created and the probability of them being scored means that we should have scored 4, so pretty much we created enough chances to finish the game off but our finishing is crap.

For reference, I think the xG of a penalty is 0.75, as there is a 75% chance that the taker will score his penalty, however, this doesn't take into account the quality of the goalkeeper and the quality of the attacker taking the penalty, so who knows how reliable it is.

Presumably that applies in all situations, not just pens.

As above though, a reflection that the finishing was a bit off, but also that the keeping was very good.
