There weren't, so you're right, it's not weaker than last season, under Brum it's going to be competitive all the way. One or two such as Exeter and Mansfield might fall away over time but still 7 or 8 who will stay the course

That was a tough division 2 years ago with those 3 miles better than anyone. Last season was generally very weak and our chance to go up. Even Pompey weren't great, just well drilled. The league this season only has 1 standout team but a lot of teams of decent enough quality, and that's our issue. We're poor against those top teams and there's a lot more of them than usual because all 3 relegated to div 3 season before last had issues that means they're all still here, and a couple of promoted teams have money. Right manager though and I still think 2nd is doable with this squad, as it will be a low points total needed. Needs an overhaul of mentality though to get something from those big games.

For me he wasn’t right for us losing that first set of Barnsley play off games. Plays the Russell Martin Philosophy and in reality if we’d of bitten the bullet then, we’d be so far better off. If anyone believes we will take us up then happy days. I didn’t want to detract from today as It’s the best match in a long time but you asked the question and I thought a response was fair. Roll on Tuesday

I thought the performance, in general, was very positive and a lot more like us.”
October 28, 20241 yr Does it meant that the way we played, we should have scored 4, but didn't? Suggests we played well, but couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

It means fuck all in the grand scheme of things to getting 3 points . you might have more chances to score but your striker might not be able to hit a barn door or you might have a shit defence thats leaking goals at the back

Yes I think the message is if you have a high XG and don't score many, you've got a great midfield and crap forwards. And if you have a low XG you've got a midfield that can't create so the forwards are a bit irrelevant anyway. Not that I'd try to understand all that nonsense.

I think so. Although, as said above, I wonder what the xG was at 96 mins… If it was 1.2 at 96 does that mean we didn’t create a huge amount? 🤷♂️

Suggests we played well, but couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. essentially yes, it means the quality of the chances created and the probability of them being scored means that we should have scored 4, so pretty much we created enough chances to finish the game off but our finishing is crap. For reference, I think the xG of a penalty is 0.75, as there is a 75% chance that the taker will score his penalty, however, this doesn't take into account the quality of the goalkeeper and the quality of the attacker taking the penalty, so who knows how reliable it is.
