kent_white Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Another strike looks like it's on its way. Junior Doctors this time, probably in March. "Below inflation pay rises add up to a 26.1% real-terms cut for junior doctors in England since 2008-09, the BMA says" Quote

fatolive Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Just come back from Ireland the health service there is experiencing excess waiting times staff shortages people on trolleys in corridors lack of available beds it’s funded differently there, They’re still in the EU , they can’t recruit qualified staff the population is only around 5 million the consensus is the cause is the perfect storm of lack of adequate funding 3 respiratory diseases ( flu corona and some other chest infection doing the rounds at the same time increasing intake lack of staff I’m firmly in the Brexit is shit camp, but, Ireland is experiencing the same as here while in the eu , so it’s not a Brexit issue , it’s probably the same as above Quote

COVID seems to crop up in all these reports. No doubt, but things weren't perfect before covid. Quite simply an ageing, less healthy population wanting increasing medical intervention. Now statins are going to be given out like sweets. Preventative- certainly but with its own costs and issues. Despite massive funding things aren't improving, though they will a little once the covid backlog is cleared. We must get back to a place where exercise and basic cooking skills are provided at school, and folk take more responsibility for their own wellbeing where they can. That will also include more money being invested into pensions/care services by individuals as well as the state. Quote

Yes but this is clearly an issue of underfunding since 2010, the ageing population is a factor but we were managing it better before 2010. The Tories drastically reduced NHS spending and we are now paying the price. Quote
