  1. Selection looks lob sided , if the manager believes in wingbacks then why doesn’t he select them ? If on the other hand he needs to toughen up the defence , why ignore a natural left footer ie Iredale ? Maybe his plan is to bring Williams on when the opposition are knackered along with the dynamic duo. Apologies for the cynicism & hope my comments come back & smack me in the gob.
  2. I agree with all of that , Sheehan was brilliant in that first half but seemed to be bypassed in the second. Thomason would run through a brick wall for the team even though his limitations are obvious.Morley has more ability but lacks George’s motivation or so it seems to me.
  3. Bad day at the office , again outfought by workmanlike team inspired by a big following . Our laborious build up play is becoming a concrete suit , not one player is prepared to risk breaking the mould apart from Thomason who just isn’t good enough to be that influential, his replacement Morley merely went through the motions .The tactical inflexibility is firmly Evatts responsibility & he has to improve our tactics during games , easier said than done I know . Cogley without Jones’s prompting is ineffective & Williams needs to grow a pair because he has the ability to get behind the defence. Actually felt sympathy for Charles & Victor who got shite service. The reality is we’re not that good or not as good as Evatt thinks we are. ok injuries have played a part & I still reckon we just need to cling on to top six or seven until January, which will be pivotal for the whole Evatt project.
  4. Don’t mind the commentators so much , although not the ones that shriek like barnshees. It’s when it comes to pundits I draw the line for example two women we’re discussing Stretford’s miserable night v the Turks & the pundit replying to the commentator said something like ‘when I played centre-back I always pushed up to support the midfield’……come again , which Champions League game was that in ? Imagine having league one or two players as pundits on Champions league nights it wouldn’t happen because those guys have no experience at that level ? It’s laughable the woke agenda.
  5. Good three points last night .Remember Oxford targeting our right side last season with arial bombardment of similar proportions & we lost 3-1 . We are probably getting the breaks at the moment which helps , but you can’t fault the commitment of the players .Dempsey not at his best but ran himself into the ground , both Thomason & Iredale didn’t shrink from the challenge despite their bookings . Our right -side didn’t really function attack wise & despite Jones ‘s limitations he does link up well with Cogley , Forrester is more defensive minded but can’t knock his performance overall. The knocking it about at the back needs modifying as some of our current team don’t seem to comfortable with it . Bod needs to start , at least we then have the option to play a bit longer & maybe a few passes might stick.Charles needs to play right on the shoulder of the defence , the deeper he comes for the ball the worse he gets.
  6. Aye great goal he scored typically from distance , Eddie Hoppy had a blinder I was 14 yrs old on the Anfield rd end & told in no uncertain terms to keep my head down by an eighteen stone ‘docker’ when celebrating our goal. On the way home we sang ‘we’ve just hammered Liverpool doodah doodah’ Freddie Hill was the undoubted star of the replay which we won 3-2. Frannys back heel goal whilst leaning on the post at Deepdale is etched in my memory forever. We sold him cheap , but it was the right move for him RIP Franny.
  7. Yeh you are right , 4-0 replay result. Must have been confusing that thrashing with another later 5-0 mauling probably mid-seventies. We also did the league double over them 1972-73 season 3-2 away & 3-0 home. Interestingly only 6k on at the Valley for the league game but 10k for the cup game. We had 18k for the league game & 21k for the cup game . How times have changed , bigger crowds for cup games then across the board.
  8. Brentford?
  9. The terrace facing the main stand was still there in the early seventies, made the embankment look tiny. Very sparsely populated however. FA cup 1-1 , Stuart Lee I think scored for us late on. Hammered them in the replay 5-1 or 5-0. Great Social club on the ground , actually missed the kick-off .
  10. Personally I feel we will tick along until January in an around the playoff places . The recruitment policy in January will make or break the Evatt project , I hope to God they get it right but appreciate some players may have to leave if others are to come in. The current squad is way short of automatic promotion quality & by that I mean winning mentality plus adequate shithousery.
  11. I was just pondering that description, seagulls are bloody useless though. Cant disagree with you unfortunately.
  12. I hope Evatt doesn’t think Medes Gomez can play rwb, that would be catastrophic. Great win though fully deserved, Sheehan at his best . Should have capitalised on our superiority & avoided the nervy finish. Onwards & upwards.
  13. Neither Sadlier or John were going to get game time rightly or wrongly so no loss in practical terms , I think you are overestimating the amount of cash BWFC actually have at their disposal & perhaps that is a popular notion amongst some of our fans.Wether or not what limited funds we own have been invested wisely is another matter. The cheap shot from you is ‘they’ kept their money .Do you honestly think football at this level is a money making venture ? Give your head a wobble.
  14. It’s somewhat dogmatic that this happens regardless of the state of the game being played.
  15. At least the over confident brigade will dampen down their unrealistic’piss the league ‘ expectation. Better the flaws appear now rather than later , some January tweaking may be required or better still before the end of September.
  16. Anyone know the extent of Santos’s injury ?
  17. Legacy wages , get a bigger maggot Roger.
  18. Just a couple of points , Wyke & Humphries are way ahead of our front two. Lang or whatever he’s called is a proper no. ten. Better players than ours. Amen.
  19. I’m probably one of the oldest posters on here & my recollections of rivalry go back a bit. When I was a yoof it was always t’Rovers mainly because they had a right mob of greasers who used to cause quite a bit of mayhem until they got a good sorting on Trinity st.Away games at Ewood were always feisty & we would fill the Darwen end.Blackpool was another rival who would chuck the kitchen sink at you (pre stabbing tragedy).PNE was usually a walkover . Burnley was interesting although they were usually at a slightly higher level than us. These in practical terms were our main rivals . As regards the stretford lot it was only the singing of Munich songs that created the impression of rivalry because we never played them which in hindsight was pathetic & embarrassing. Notwithstanding that I still want them to lose every game! Wigan really only appeared on the scene when our dive down the leagues was cemented in the mid eighties.Springfield park was a jolly although they did beat us quite a lot.Worked with an pie-eater back then & if he hated us he definitely hid it well although he DID hate Wigan rugby. The Tranmere ‘thing’ came later with the main instigator being that balloon Aldridge , & some shithousery from his predecessor after the playoff final. In essence rivalries do change depending on the topography of which league your in so Wigan should be no surprise especially with the yoof.
  20. I think George will need replacing , he does offer something different than the others in that he’s leftsided & is a grafter . Some games he is ideal for , others not . An experienced upgrade would be ideal hopefully someone to add some bite when required .Easier said than done given Thomason’s improvement Year on year. Mendes Gomez doesn’t need the ball anywhere near our penalty area , his tendency (so far) to give it away cheaply will need to improve although I don’t think he’s match fit yet.
  21. Might as well gift wrap the lad as well , prefer to keep him unless someone offers over 1 mill.
  22. That’s my point 6k plus v Salford last season , maybe being crammed into one stand wasn’t considered an attractive proposition by some of our fan base. Even 10-20% being put off attending is worth consideration by the club.
  23. I think Traff has a point , it was a questionable decision by the club to cram us all in one section .The eighty year old bloke next to me was driving me nuts , I managed to move to one of the few empty seats for the second half . Having us in one section didn’t actually enhance the atmosphere either .If it was an experiment it failed & I would think twice before attending a similar game ,they should be treating the competition with more respect not to mention the fans. Tinpot pizza cup I can understand but not the League cup ffs.
  24. First fifteen minutes were quality should have been three up , Dan should have scored , Iredale just unlucky & a cracking move ending with Medes Gomez flaying at the ball from point blank & completely ballsing up. Observations : Ashworth did ok & scored but struggles to get around the last defender. Dan is never a striker . The Brentford loanee is busy & defo not a defensive mid, unlucky not to score in the first half. Thomason as a defensive mid will get loads of yellow cards. Forrester very composed on the ball & reads the game well. Mendes Gomez is not 100% fit. Goalie had nowt to do . Jerome did ok . Obviously Santos was imperious along with Iredale.
  25. Can’t really understand why even the friendly v WBA attracted more fans ? perhaps some of our fans think it’s the papa johns tinpot cup. We managed 6k ish v Salford last season in same competition, well at least I’m looking forward to seeing more of our new signings
