The Managerial Roundabout

Shrewsbury potting Cotterill is an odd one,

Spurs possibly seeking a new manager around Christmas, not sure how he will do.

Gerrard to Leeds is rumoured.

Uri Geller to Wigan?

I know he’s not a manager but Standard Liege fans seem gutted we’ve got Fergal Harkin to the extent that some are saying he saved them from relegation despite having no budget. Sounds positive.

  • Are you serious? The guy brought us some fucking brilliant moments  that we’ll never forget. Yeah, it didn’t end up great but ffs.

What a team we had that season. Not quite the entertainers of previous years with Okocha, Djorkaeff, Nakata gone. But look at how solid that line up is throughout - peak Allardyce at that point.

Yes, for correctly telling Dean he was a fucking cheat 😁

Was never sold on Meite

And don't mention Nakata in the same sentence as JJ and Youri when taking about entertaining players

Meite didn't look half the player when he wasn't alongside Faye.

Nakata did bugger all apart from score a free-kick. He was a big disappointment.

He didn't even bring Japanese tourists to the ground or sell shit loads of shirts back home

Absolute waste of time

Pretty much straight after the second penalty was saved for going nuts at the referee, I think

I foolishly had that day as the start of an intensive driving course so had to make do with watching in the pub

In my top 3 away days I reckon. We took 8,000 didn’t we?

We turned them over a few times at their place during that period

The one we won 4-3 was a cracker

The Diouf dive match was another

Yes was a mega day. Thought the Furnhurst was gonna burst. Messy Sunday night too.

7k, the full away end.  Hard to think of many better away games for me too.  £15 a ticket instead of the usual £30ish, we reciprocated at our place and they became £15 matches for 2 or 3 years till the novelty wore off and it became routine/taken for granted.

Pre and post the £15 games, some very poor followings at Ewood especially that game when it was snowing and kicked off at 12 on a Sunday, and that Diouff penalty game, just had a corner of bottom tier.

Can't write of Etete yet.

Why not? Randall has done far more than him, in not much more time, and has been written off by a few! 🙄

One was an unfit last minute short term loan, the other a £1.25m+ transfer.

Hardly a like for like comparison.

Imagine our lot now playing in front of 7k away fans 😂. They’re intimidated by the Cambridge ultras never mind the sight and pressure of that full away end!

All teary eyed of the days where you could casually decide to do an away day 3 days before the game instead of having to be sat with 12 screens open like a sky news centre with a scroll of clients refs ready to pounce at 1 millisecond past ten for some shitty backwater and their 1100 tickets.

Those days will return my friend

Barnsley away in April

It was a tongue in cheek comment on people writing off both players, on the basis of around 450 combined minutes on the pitch.

Whether Randell will prove to be worth £1.25 million, or Etete can offer something in the remainder of our season, it’s far too early to judge either.

They’ll probably restrict us again, just for a laugh

Its very much the difference between me bothering with aways and not bothering.  If it had been like this when I was doing about half the aways in 80s and 90s life would have been very different.

Away games in Yorkshire or the Midlands used to involve phone calls on Thursday or Friday to see who was going and a plan of who was being picked up where/when.

do you not remember those forms you used to have to fill in with a pen and drop them at the ticket office (then at the front of the ground) or by post

That's it mate. Safe to say I'm a fair weather awayer nowadays. Don't stand a chance with any decent away.

So easy to become out of the zone with them, so to speak.

Tickets are sold out before Ive even thought about it.

As a kid my old man took me everywhere. Spare of moment decisions to leg it to Darlington or Huddersfield away or summet.

You'd have to plan that 4 weeks in advance now and be ready with your client refs and laptop open 🤦‍♂️

Grateful for small mercies though, our ground is big enough for folk to turn up on the day (if not fussy where they sit).

For every Prem League club that's impossible, and bigger clubs like Leeds.  That was never the case 20 years - you could turn up at Everton or Leeds on the day and get a ticket for most games, not any more.  It must be a nightmare if you've supported a team all your life and maybe don't live near enough to get a S/T and you're virtually locked out now.

Monk ousted by Cambridge Ultras.

Luke Williams (ex Notts County), sacked by Swansea after 13 months.

Making room for Monk to return ?
