The Managerial Roundabout

Shrewsbury potting Cotterill is an odd one,

Spurs possibly seeking a new manager around Christmas, not sure how he will do.

Gerrard to Leeds is rumoured.

Uri Geller to Wigan?

I know he’s not a manager but Standard Liege fans seem gutted we’ve got Fergal Harkin to the extent that some are saying he saved them from relegation despite having no budget. Sounds positive.

  • Are you serious? The guy brought us some fucking brilliant moments  that we’ll never forget. Yeah, it didn’t end up great but ffs.

Mr Evatt maybe?

I genuinely don’t see him getting the same ‘project’ opportunities elsewhere for him to fancy it

But yes, gone. Couldn't happen to a less likeable bloke.

He's an arse hole.

It's hard to have any sympathy for him.

Can't say sympathy came into my thinking. Just a fact that he would struggle in those circumstances, which makes the timing of the sacking a bit questionable. Unless there are other issues of course.

Still, like QPR, can't say that job would be of interest to IE.

Aaaah, OK.

Thomasons decision to stay seems a whole lot smarter now

Looking at Bristol City Ways and I can't see anyone who agrees with the sacking

Joey Barton?  An odd coincidence the Bristol clubs have sacked their managers in the same week, and it hadn't occurred to me before that 2 of the least likeable managers in England were in the same city.  It will be a surprise to see either of them again.

Potentially a big club Bristol City a big City with little competition around so could be a good job for somebody but if the owners won’t invest even when they’ve sold players for good money it’s difficult to see them ever achieving what they want. Certainly not the kind of place for IE.

Owner has money (Stephen Lansdown) from Hargreaves Lansdown. But looking to sell, like most rich owners he thinks he’s put more than his fair share in and wants out. Also owns Brizzle Bears RU which will also be a money pit.

Any new manager may find themselves with new owners who would surely want to bring their own in.

Also think all this alleged baggage around IE might put a higher profile club off.

You're probably right but i wouldn't think of Bristol City as higher profile than BWFC.

I'm only thinking back as far as Jimmy Armfield but have we ever had a manager that has (long term) gone on to bigger and better things?

Maybe Phil Neil did ok medium term.🤔

Whilst not having the 'success' he had at Bolton, you could argue Allardyce did.

Correct. But that meant his move to Arsenal was for one season. It fckd us up and him.

For all the talk of him being unpopular at Arsenal, it’s often forgotten that Stewart Houston liked working with him enough to give him the assistant’s job at QPR a couple of years later.

And it’s even more forgotten that Rioch later managed in the Champions League in the mid 2000s!

And it was Bruce Rioch that signed Denis Bergkamp!!!

That’s a huge loss to Oxford, let’s hope it affects them adversely when they play us if it happens?

big loss for Oxford, hopefully means one less team in the auto promotion race

So what’s the craic with an EFL Championship club buying a player from an EFL 1 club outside of the transfer window?
